Hold the Swimmer (Gold) Proficiency Badge.
Swim 10 metres continuously in any recognised stroke.
Swim 25 metres by any stroke other than the backstroke, using your legs only, and 25 metres on the back, showing ability to change direction left and right. During the swim on the back, your arms must be folded on the chest; the full distance of 50 metres must be done without pause as one continuous swim. You must wear a shirt and shorts for this test.
Explain the following:
Common drowning situations and how to prevent them.
How to identify someone in the water who needs assistance.
The order of methods in water rescue.
How rescue methods vary depending on the setting and the condition of the person needing assistance.
Situations for which in-water rescues should not be undertaken.
Explain how to escape from a victim's grasp on your wrist while attempting a rescue in deep water.
Show how to reach out to a non-swimmer fallen into water, using at least TWO non-direct contact methods of rescue.
List at least FIVE basic water safety rules.
Attend a CPR + AED workshop and be able to correctly demonstrate how to do CPR and the correct use of an AED.
Note:
a) Passed SwimSafer Stage 5 or Silver Award
{Singapore Swimming Academy / Singapore Sports Council / Swimming Teachers Association} allows exemption from items 1 to 3.
b) Passed Lifesaving 1, 2, 3 Awards or higher {Singapore Life Saving Society} will qualify for the Life Saver Proficiency Badge.
Note:
Where Cubs are participating in water activities, Cub Scout Leaders must ensure adequate arrangements have been made for the safety of the Cub Scouts and that the activity is properly supervised.
