Tier 1 (Guided by Leaders)
Explain to your Scout Leader the importance of First Aid, and how and when to get adult help.
Know the difference between calling 999, 995 and 1777 and what to say when the call is made*.
*In a medical emergency, dial 995 for an ambulance. Tell the operator the exact location of the victim, and the general description of the injury. In a non-emergency situation, like a headache or stomachache, call 1777.
Know the importance of cleanliness and show how to dress minor cuts and grazes with gauze and a roller bandage; apply and remove adhesive dressings.
Know how to treat a wasp or bee sting and how to remove a splinter.
Know the importance of having a First Aid Kit.
To achieve the Bronze Arrow (in First Aid),
Cubs are required to complete all the requirements.
Tier 2 (Guided by Leaders)
Share with your Scout Leader what you have learnt in Tier 1.
Demonstrate how to reassure someone at the scene of an emergency, and how to make a casualty comfortable.*.
Have the knowledge to help someone who is in shock or bleeding*.
*Treating for Shock
When a person is injured, especially a bad injury, he usually suffers from varying degrees of shock. Signs of shock are cold and clammy skin, pale face, shivering, shallow and quick breathing.
The best first aid for shock is to reassure the victim. Lie the victim down, with a soft support under his head, and feet slightly elevated. Loosen tight clothing and keep the victim warm, telling him not to worry, that help is coming.
Know how to treat burns and scalds and how to put out burning clothing.
Learn about the SCDF home shelter and explain its use.
Know where to find the nearest AED; to your home and school.
Explain to your Scout Leader what you will do during a Fire Emergency Situation at home or elsewhere. (Example: Fire Drill)
To achieve the Silver Arrow (in First Aid),
Cubs are required to complete requirements (1), (2), (3) & (4).
Tier 3 (Guided by Leaders)
Share with your Scout Leader what you have learnt in Tier 1 and Tier 2
(a) Know the items found in a Standard First Aid Kit and what they are used for.
(b) Know how to pack a personal First Aid Kit.
Know the limits of first aid and when a first aider would need to get adult help.
Know how to control bleeding by direct pressure on a wound.
Demonstrate how to apply gauze and a roller bandage for a head wound and an arm or leg wound. Also demonstrate how to make an arm sling with a triangular bandage.
Draw/explain the emergency escape route plan for your school and/or home, then highlight where the assembly point is.
Tell your Scout Leader where you can locate a Fire Extinguisher, Fire Hose Reel, Manual Call Point and AED in your school or at a key location in your neighbourhood. Explain the functionality of each device.
To achieve the Gold Arrow (in First Aid),
Cubs are required to complete requirements (1), (2), (3), (4) & (5).
Tier 4
Share with your Scout Leader what you have learnt in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3.
Know how to help someone who is having an asthma attack.
Obtain a Standard First Aid with CPR & AED qualification from an approved training provider.
Serve at least 2 community engagement events (planned/engaged by PA EPD) – to be included for Top Award review.
Tier 5
Obtain a Standard First Aid with CPR & AED qualification from an approved training provider. (You may skip this if your qualification is still within the qualification validity period)
Perform 20 hours of service as a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member or the Community Emergency & Engagement Committee (C2E) within your constituency.
Serve as a member of your Scout unit’s emergency response team during a unit activity.
Tier 6
Obtain a Standard First Aid with CPR & AED qualification from an approved training provider. (You may skip this if your qualification is still within the qualification validity period)
Perform 40 hours of service as a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member or the Community Emergency & Engagement Committee (C2E) within your constituency.
Serve as the leader of the Scout unit’s emergency response team during a unit activity/or serve as emergency responder at an area or national event.
