Artist Statement:

The subject of this photograph is my friend Siham putting on her hijab. To create this photos I went into the dark room and has Siham pose like she was putting up/on her hijab. I chose to create this photo because I wanted to reveal her culture and ancestry by showing the fashion (hijab) that she wears. The material I used was my Canon Rebel digital camera, I then edited it using the iphoto app on my macbook. The elements of art that I used were color, value, and shape. The principles of design that I used were emphasis and contrast. The composition rules/ techniques that I used was rule of thirds. My project evolved because I had a strong idea of what I wanted to capture as my message, but I wasn't entirely sure how I wanted her to be posed or have her hands positioned. The meaning behind this artwork is to appreciate everyone and the cultures that they come from. This project relates to my life because I like showing and learning about the fashion styles from different cultures and time periods. If I could change anything about this photograph I would go back into photoshop and draw in a little bit more of the color of the hijab that I missed.
