Duck Stamp

Artist Statement:

The subject of this drawing is two King Eider ducks, one male and one female, in the water. The material I used was Prisma colored pencils. To create this drawing I first used pencil to draw out the outline of the two ducks and feather patterns on them. I chose to create this drawing because of the national duck stamp competition. I participated in this competition last year and I knew that I wanted to do it again. The elements of art that I used were color and line. The principles of design that I used were proportion/ scale. The composition rules/ techniques that I used was informal balance. This project relates to my life because I took 3rd place in this competition last year I wanted to try participating in it again to see if I could improve on my realism drawing skills. The meaning behind this drawing is to appreciate and protect all duck species and help to protect their environment. If I could change anything about this drawing I would add more details to the water (background) to make it look more realistic.
