Hand Sculpture

Artist Statement:

The subject of this sculpture is two hands protecting glaciers. The materials that I used were sculpey, acrylic paint and molds for the hands. The elements of art that I used were color, shape, and space. The principals of design I used were rhythm/ movement, contrast and emphasis. The composition rule that I used was informal balance. This project relates to my life because I really like learning about the environment and what humans can do to fix the problems we have created. The meaning behind this sculpture is to relate to a social issue in our world today. I decided to work off of how climate change is affecting glaciers in the arctic. If I could change anything about this work of art I would make changes to the highlight cast by the sun.
