duck stamp

Artist Statement:

The subject of this artwork is a family of Harlequin ducks for the national duck stamp competition. The materials that I used were colored pencils and acrylic paint. I chose to do this artwork because I really liked the colors on the ducks and the textures and colors on the rocks. The principles of art that I used was color and texture. The composition rule that I used was formal balance. Originally I planned on having the whole background be the rock, but I wanted a variation of colors, so I added the water. The meaning behind this artwork is that I drew a whole family of harlequin ducks because I wanted to show that it is important for families to stay together for ducks and people. If I could change anything I would add more color in the dark rock at the top right of the page.
