Expressionistic Self Portrait

Artist Statement:

The subject of these drawings are expressionistic self-portraits. The material I used for the first drawing was oil paint sticks and the material I used for the second drawing was black ink. I chose to create these drawings because I really like to start my drawing by doing a black outline in pen, so I incorporated that same style into the oil paint stick drawing by using a black paint stick and then using selected color around the outside of the figures. The elements of art that I used were color and line. The principals of design that I used were pattern and balance. The composition rule that I used was formal balance. This project relates to my life because they are both self-portraits and they are based around my emotions right now. My project evolved because in the oil paint stick drawing I continued to add more layers on top once it dried. If I could go back and change anything I would add more details into the ink drawing.
