Arrive Alive Competition

Artist Statement:

The subject of this drawing is a car accident. I created this drawing for the Joe Borenstein arrive alive competition. The materials I used were colored pencil, pen, and marker. To create this drawing I first drew out an outline of the car in pencil and then I went back in with the colored pencils, pen, and markers to fill in the negative space. I chose to create this drawing because I came up with the idea for this competition of having it show the driver's view during a car accident and the consequences that driving distracted can cause. The elements of art that I used were color, line, and shape. The principles of design that I used were contrast, balance, and rhythm/movement. The composition rules/ techniques that I used was informal balance. This project relates to my life because I know people that have either lost their life from a car accident of being hit by a drunk driver. I want to raise awareness to the fact that many people are being killed in accidents like these and it needs to stop. The meaning behind this drawing is not to take anything in life for granted and think before you do something reckless. If I could change anything about this drawing I would use printed text for the words so that they would be a little cleaner.
