Lucia Caecilia O’Neill is a New York City-based composer. She grew up as a classically trained ballet dancer before seriously pivoting toward the music field. At the age of 17, she obtained her first two copyrights for her original piano compositions “I Remember” and “Reason,” which she recorded live at Fenix Studios. Since then, she has created works for a broader range of instrumentation, including chamber, hybrid electronic and orchestral, synth, guitar, percussion, and choral. Her preferred compositional style is melodic and thematic, using harmonies that weave in and out, with variations on an original theme as the music evolves.

In her undergraduate education, Lucia obtained a dual honors degree, a B.S. in Cognitive Science and a B.A. in music. During this time, she was a piano accompanist for two churches and conducted research on music-associated memory and the brain. Now, she is pursuing a Masters of Music in Composition: Screen Scoring at NYU. She has studied with Emmy-nominated composer and orchestrator Irwin Fisch, as well as with Shruti Kumar, who has worked for Disney and AMC projects. Lucia is interested in music for the screen (TV, film, games, ads) as well as live music, specifically musical theatre. She is working on composing films for students from NYU’s Tisch School and hopes to gain experience in composition for dance and theatre going forward.
