Jonathan Xu

Jonathan Xu is a clarinetist and composer born in Washington. Jonathan has played the clarinet for five years and played in multiple ensembles, including the Seattle Youth Symphony and his district’s honor orchestra, the Evergreen Philharmonic. He began composing when he was in 10th grade, and his piece, “The Little Mermaid” for full orchestra, was premiered by the Seattle Symphony in May 2023. Jonathan has also won his state’s first ever composition category for solo and ensemble with his piece “Soar" for string quartet. Ever since hearing the main theme from The Lord of the Rings, Jonathan fell in love with film scores. Jonathan is currently studying screen scoring at New York University and aspires to write powerful orchestral scores to move the hearts of the public.
