HOLIDAY CLASS PARTIES, 12/18: We will have our classroom holiday parties from 10:45-11:45 Thursday! If you are planning on attending the classroom parties on December 18th, please feel free to come up anytime this week to collect a badge and skip the lines on the 18th. Feel free to share this with any family members that are planning on attending. This will help to make sure you can quickly go celebrate with your tiger!
It's that time of the year again! Please reference our Holiday Hullabaloo Calendar to see all of our fun themed days throughout December. We will begin participating on 12/1!
Mid-year parent letters and student assessment data will be sent home on Wednesday, January 7th. Please look for these in your child’s Goal Setting Folder. If you have any questions regarding the letter or your child’s progress, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you!
Reading: Students will recall the beginning, middle and end of a story.
Writing: Students will learn about the elements of a letter and will compose their own.
Math: Students will do a class presentation over their research about the career they chose.
Social Studies: Students will identify jobs in the home, school and community.
As a culmination to our Financial Literacy Unit in Math, students are invited to dress up for the career they chose to research about in Math on Monday, December 15th. Please be sure to ask your child what profession they chose to learn about before preparing for this amazing day. (We picked on Dec. 8th) Students may bring "tools" to help them do their job. For example, teachers would need books, pointers, pencils. Restaurant Workers would need toy food, serving tray, money etc. Doctors would use a stethoscope, doctor coat and a folder with papers to write notes in.
They will stand in front of the class and present their profession, skills they need to be able to do/have, and how they will spend their income on needs and wants. (We will do ALL of this work at school, no need to prepare.)
If you would like to confirm what your child chose, please email the teacher. Thank you for helping to make learning fun!
Best,
Kinder Team
Parents,
It's that time of year. The weather is changing and it is COLD! Please make sure to replace your child's change of clothes in their backpacks with winter appropriate clothing.
Please send your child to school with a jacket everyday. Please work with your child on how to put on their jacket and how to zip it up!
Thank you!
Below is the day your child's class will go to the library each week! Please make sure your child brings their book back the DAY BEFORE their library day. We always tell our students to keep their book in their backpack at all times (unless they are reading it) so it is always here at school when it's time for the library!

By the end of Kindergarten, your child needs to know how to read and spell/write the purple irregular words in your child's book bag.
Mastery means they do not have to sound them out or look at the word to spell them.
Please practice nightly until mastered. For the end of the 2nd nine weeks(Week of December 15th), they need to be able to spell/write 12 in order to get a "4" in SBRC. The goal is to be able to spell/write at least 25 of these words by the end of the 3rd and 4th nine weeks of Kindergarten.
Thank you for helping your child succeed in Kindergarten!
NEW sight word cards for the 2nd 9 weeks have been placed in your child's reading book bag. Please make sure you have cut out the YELLOW sight word cards. Also, make sure your child is practicing the letters and sounds they still need to master.
Ideas to do after your child finishes their book:
-Find sight words in the book.
-Ask your child questions about the book.
-Retell the story in order.
Don't forget to make sure your child brings their book bag to school EVERY DAY!
This week's sight words are:

Here are a few links to help you better understand how grading works in Kindergarten. Please read the parent guide for questions and reference the rubric to understand how each TEK is assessed and marked.
When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of them is out of the office.
If you want to come eat lunch with your child, please let your child's teacher know 24 hours in advance. There are tables outside that you and your child can use to eat together!
If your child forgets their lunch/snack and you plan to drop it off at school, please be sure to let your child's teacher know in advance. This allows the teacher to check the Forget Me Not shelf and ensure that your child receives what you brought.
