Curriculum

🧮 Math - This week we will wrap up Unit 5: Data Analysis and review for the TEKS check.  The students will represent data using stem-and-leaf plots.  They will also use the data to solve one step and multistep word problems.  Students should be able to create stem-and-leaf plots and analyze the data.

Unit 4-5 TEKS Check will be NEXT Friday, December 12th.  The test will be numerical expressions, strip diagrams, and input/output tables .  It will also cover data analysis- frequency tables, dot plots, and stem-and-leaf plots.  Students can access the Algebraic Reasoning Quizizz Review linked in their Math Canvas course.

🧪 Science - In Science this week, we will begin a new unit on Patterns of the Seasons. The students will collect and analyze data to identify the sequences and patterns of the change in seasons by observing temperature and length of daylight

📚 Reading: This week, our 4th graders will be diving into the world of poetry! We’re focusing on key elements that make poems come to life, such as visualization, figurative language, and theme. Students are learning to visualize the scenes and emotions poets describe, using vivid imagery to create pictures in their minds. They’re also exploring figurative language like similes, metaphors, and personification to better understand how poets convey deeper meanings. Additionally, we’re discussing theme—the underlying message or moral of a poem—and how the author’s purpose shapes their choice of words and structure. It’s been exciting to see the students develop their appreciation for poetry and their ability to analyze the creative choices poets make! Module 5 TEKS check 12/12

✏️ Writing:  Students will be working on 2 tasks in writing: 

1. Analyzing poetry to write an opinion piece. They will make a claim and provide text evidence from the poem to support it with reasoning. We'll be chunking this writing as it will be their first extended written response in 4th grade! 

2. Take a look at their Persuasive writing activity for December! We will practice organizing details, creating strong sentences to show descriptive writing for their house and persuasive word choice.

🌏 Social Studies -Students will participate in a Texas Revolution Review and take their SS TEKS Check 12/10. Be sure to send the Review -Study guide back with your student on 12/10.
