Welcome to 2nd Grade
What an amazing first week! Our second graders arrived to school on time, prepared, and full of positive energy. We loved seeing their smiling faces AND getting those hugs. For a weekly glimpse into the classroom, please read our 2nd grade newsletter, sent out by Principal Schilleci every Sunday. In it you will find a recap of the previous week, what's coming up, and other important information. The second grade team looks forward to having a GREAT year working with both you and your children.

Student Absences: Please email your homeroom teacher AND copy Sierra Salter, sierra.salter@gcisd.net anytime your child will be absent for any reason.
Arrival: K-2 students go to the gym. 3-5 students go to the cafeteria. Students report directly to the classroom starting at 7:30. The tardy bell is at 7:35 a.m..
Ride Changes: Call or email Sierra Salter, sierra.salter@gcisd.net prior to 2:00, if your child is going home a different way than normal. At 2:30, the office lets each teacher know of these changes, so that we can let students know. If your child is not on our email list from the office about a ride change, we cannot let them go home differently. Your child's safety is our top priority.
Thank you so much!
Please send your child with two healthy (nut free) snacks. They may want a morning and afternoon snack.
Please make sure student iPads are plugged in every evening before bed so that they are fully charged for class. Students need a pair of wired headphones, also. **not wireless
Students go to PE every day. Please make sure they are wearing (or have in their backpack) a good pair of closed toe shoes (sneakers).
Curriculum Notes
Water bottles will no longer be brought to recess, lunch and specials. Since we go straight from 2nd recess to specials AND specials switch midway through the period, students are having trouble keeping up with their bottles and spills are occuring. Below is our plan for giving students ample opportunities for water. We will discuss this with them Monday morning.
11:00 Students pass a water fountain and are invited to drink before recess.
11:15 Students enter the building and pass a bathroom/water fountain on the way into the cafeteria. The students can also independently get cups of water or buy milk/juice in the lunchroom.
11:45 Students pass a bathroom/water fountain again on the way out of the building for 2nd recess.
12:00 Students enter the building again and pass the bathroom/water fountain on the way to specials.
This will help us, your students and the Specials teachers. Thank you for understanding!
