ELAR (Ms. Dagger)
I hope everyone had a fabulous break. I am looking forward to seeing all of our students this week!
We will begin our iReady MOY reading diagnostic this week. Please encourage your child to do their best
This week, students are reading the texts Living Green and The Good Garden. We will recognize elements of drama, literary elements and figurative language. Students will use key vocabulary and learn the Latin roots dict and spect.
In writing we will research and begin a persuasive writing piece. In grammar, we will review commas and semicolons.
Remember to set a time to read each night at home. Reading at home increases comprehension skills, as well as vocabulary.
As students read, have your child identify verbs and determine their tense (past, present, future). Discuss how the tense changes the meaning of the sentence. Talk about daily activities and ask your child to describe them using different verb tenses. (For example, "What did you do yesterday?" (past), "What are you doing now?" (present), "What will you do tomorrow?" (future).
Math (Ms. Lee)
The students are beginning Unit 6 Algebraic Reasoning. The students will learn how to write equations for missing variables and order of operations (PEMDAS). The test for this Unit will be Monday, December 15.
Also, we have our i-Ready MOY Assessment the week of December 8-12.
Homework
The students will need to complete 45 minutes in i-Ready and 4 fluency checks. Please note that for each fact fluency session, the students can only do one per day.
