ELAR (Ms. Dagger)
Whew! The business of December has definitely set in, and we are all gearing up for the holidays. This week, we will wrap up Module 6 by reading Parrots over Puerto Rico. We will discuss text structure and text features. We will learn how the Latin root -bene and the suffix -ure help us understand the meaning of unknown words.
In writing, we will focus on creative writing and 10-sentence stories. In grammar, we will continue working on complex sentences and our use of commas.
Remember to set a time to read each night at home. Reading at home increases comprehension skills, as well as vocabulary.
After students read, focus on the literary elements of the story. Ask the following questions:
How does the setting impact the events of a story? How might the events of the story be different if the setting changed?
Can you identify the setting, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution in the book you have reading or in a movie you have watched lately? What details from the book/movie support how you knew that?
Math (Ms. Lee)
The students are working on Unit 6 Order of Operations and Algebraic Reasoning. The students will learn how to write equations for missing variables and order of operations (PEMDAS). The test for this Unit will be Monday, December 15.
We have our i-Ready MOY Assessment the week of December 8-12.
Homework
The students will not have any homework this week due to MOY Math Testing in class.
