Curriculum
🧮 Math - This week in math, the students will learn how to use their STAAR Reference Sheet to convert customary and metric units of measurement. They will learn arm movements to help them know when to multiply (larger unit to smaller unit) and divide (smaller units to larger units).
🏡Weekly Homework: Spiral Review Week 15 - Due Friday, February 27th. (available on Friday, 20th)
🧪 Science - This week, we will learn about Natural Resources. Students will identify and explain advantages and disadvantages of using Earth's renewable and nonrenewable natural resources.
📚 Reading - Fourth graders will have their module 7 review on Monday and Tuesday. MODULE 7 With an ECR on Wednesday and Thursday. Be sure to review their work Tuesday night! We have had a wonderful time learning about Traditional Stories.
📣 STAAR Vocabulary Family Challenge –
Be on the lookout Monday, February 23 for an important letter coming home about our STAAR vocabulary focus! Inside, you’ll find details about how we’re strengthening students’ immediate recall of key Reading STAAR terms with answer key for continued practice at home.
⭐ Beginning THIS Wednesday, February 25, we’ll kick off something new and fun! Each Wednesday, we will call one randomly selected parent during each class and ask, “Can you name one of our STAAR vocabulary words from this week?” If the answer is correct, the entire class earns a treat!

🏡Weekly Homework: Spiral Review Grammar - Due Friday, February 27th and i ready = 38 lessons
✏️ Writing - Students will be sending their Tall Tales to the publisher this week and getting ready for our Open house next week. They are very excited to show select pieces from our work this year.
🌏 Social Studies - This week in Social Studies, students will learn about Reconstruction and how Texas rebuilt after the Civil War — including the end of slavery, the roles of the Freedmen’s Bureau, and the 13th–15th Amendments. They will study how Texas’s economy shifted (growth of cash crops, ranching, railroads, and early industry), examine the rise and decline of cattle drives and trails, and learn about key figures like Richard King, Charles Goodnight, and Lizzie Johnson Williams. Students will also explore the impact of westward settlement on American Indian tribes, the near‑extinction of the bison, and how these changes transformed Texas’s landscape, communities, and schools under the 1876 Constitution.

Lunch
Lunch for fourth grade is from 12:20-12:50. Don’t forget to set up a lunch account for your child in the cafeteria. We will use our "Forget Me Not" system again this year. If a student forgets his/ her lunch, parents may bring it to school before lunchtime. Please leave it on the shelf in the lobby (labeled with the student's name). Teachers will remind students to check the shelf before lunch.

Please have your child bring a pair of headphones with them daily. Students use headphones frequently to complete various activities and assessments.
Snacks
Snacks
We invite your child to bring a healthy snack to school each day. The snack needs to be something that is not messy and does not require silverware. We are going to be eating and working at the same time. Any snack that contains candy is not considered healthy. A few suggestions are: goldfish, cheerios, pretzels, grapes, raisins, carrots, etc. Your child’s snack must also be NUT-FREE.

Arrival
Students report to the cafeteria starting at 7:25. Then they will be released from the cafeteria to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m. The tardy bell is at 7:35 a.m.
Ride Changes
If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office via email by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs. When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of us is out of the office.
Pick up Reminder
Students should be promptly picked up after school at 3:05. We appreciate your efforts to be on time to pick up your child. Finally, when dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your car all the way down to the end of the line. Duty personnel will send your child down to your car. This keeps the traffic flowing. Don’t forget your School Safe ID Number. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
