Please make sure your luggage, snacks, and trash bags are labeled with your child's cabin number. Drop off will be on the bus loop side so that we can store things underneath the awning. If you are a parent who is not attending, please hand your child's labeled ziplock back of medicine in its original container to a 4th grade teacher outside.
The only thing students will need to bring to class on Wednesday morning is their small backpack loaded with the following items:
o Water bottle (leakproof)
o Rain gear (if there is any chance of rain at all)
o 2 sharpened pencils
o Snack for the bus ride
o Optional: camera
Please have your child wear their O.C. Taylor class shirt on Wednesday when we leave.
🔌 💻 Parents, please remind your student to charge their Chromebook every night.
Curriculum
🧮 Math - This week the students will learn about decimals on a number line. They will learn how to locate and plot decimals and fractions to the tenths and hundredths on a number line. The students will also identify the decimal value of points plotted on a number line.
🧪 Science - In Science this week, the students will focus on the difference between inherited traits and acquired physical traits of plants. They will participate in hands-on activities, read about a variety of traits, and apply their learning in a variety of ways.
📚 Reading: A huge shout out to Ms. Odietus and Ms. DeSantis for coming up to help with our 4th grade Robo Arena Review! We couldn't have done it without you. This week, students will present their “Slice of History” projects, highlighting the obstacles and lasting impact of famous historical figures through their creative pizza box designs. Each student-designed “pizzeria” features a unique company name, slogan, pizza topping connections, and character traits inspired by their chosen legend. Through focused research, students explored how these figures overcame challenges to make a difference. Next, we’ll launch into Module 4: Heroic Feats — What Does It Take to Be a Hero? Students will explore our opening text using text features to uncover the qualities that define real-life heroes.
✏️ Writing: Students will wrap up Module 3 with a fun and creative writing activity that connects to their historical figures! In our “Characters Dressed Up as Other Characters for Halloween” twist, students will compare the inner qualities of their historical figure to a make-believe character. They’ll brainstorm three possible “costumes,” support their ideas with evidence, and then choose one to design and write about. This activity encourages creative thinking while reinforcing character analysis and evidence-based writing.
🌏 Social Studies - Unit 3 the "Age of Exploration and Contact" in America! We are going to focus on Spanish explorers this week their adventures, accomplishments and their contributions to Texas. We will also discuss and identify their purpose or reasons for their adventures (the 3 G's) and the competition between Spain and France and their claim for land. This will also lead into to discussing Spanish explorers and their contact with Native American Indians through missions, and how they introduced new religions, cultures and tools to their way of life. It's going to be so much fun and I hope your student tells you all about it!

Reading Module TIPS
Have yourchild keep a growing list of the Critical Vocabulary words. Quiz each other on their meanings.
Reading Check in:
Anything that your child does not finish in class will be homework. It will be marked as "Math HW" in their orange GREAT Tiger Folder. We would also like for your child to work on their multiplication and/or division facts for 10 minutes each night.
We want the students to read for at least 20 minutes or more every night. This is the only reading homework we require!
BOOK CLUBS
Help your reader stay on track with their assigned reading by looking at the bookmark dates. Being prepared makes for a great book club discussion!
Correction: Reading 2 is due 10/14
Lunch for fourth grade is from 12:20-12:50. Don’t forget to set up a lunch account for your child in the cafeteria. We will use our "Forget Me Not" system again this year. If a student forgets his/ her lunch, parents may bring it to school before lunchtime. Please leave it on the shelf in the lobby (labeled with the student's name). Teachers will remind students to check the shelf before lunch.
Please have your child bring a pair of headphones with them daily. Students use headphones frequently to complete various activities and assessments.
We invite your child to bring a healthy snack to school each day. The snack needs to be something that is not messy and does not require silverware. We are going to be eating and working at the same time. Any snack that contains candy is not considered healthy. A few suggestions are: goldfish, cheerios, pretzels, grapes, raisins, carrots, etc. Your child’s snack must also be NUT-FREE.
Student Absences
If your student is absent for any reason, please email the following people:
your child's teacher
copy: paola.cervantes@gcisd.net and elissa.faught@gcisd.net
Arrival
Students report to the cafeteria starting at 7:25. Then they will be released from the cafeteria to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m. The tardy bell is at 7:35 a.m.
Ride Changes
If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office via email by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs. When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of us is out of the office.
Pick up Reminder
Students should be promptly picked up after school at 3:05. We appreciate your efforts to be on time to pick up your child. Finally, when dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your car all the way down to the end of the line. Duty personnel will send your child down to your car. This keeps the traffic flowing. Don’t forget your School Safe ID Number. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
Communication
Please feel free to contact your homeroom teacher if you have any concerns or questions. We are happy to meet in person, call or email. We want to help immediately with any issues that arise.
As needs arise in our classrooms, we will put them here. We really appreciate your support for us and our students!
