REMINDER: IF your child would like to send Valentines to others in their classroom, please make sure they send them to everyone. Your child's homeroom teacher sent home a hardcopy of homeroom class names and also sent an email a few weeks ago. Also, please have your child make a box or bag at home to collect their Valentines. They can send their Valentine’s box/bag to school any day in February before February 12. We will pass out the Valentines on Friday, February 13.

Curriculum
🧮 Math - This week in math the students will add and subtract fractions with like denominators. They will also review for the Unit 6 Fractions Test that will cover unit fractions, decomposing fractions, equivalent and simplified fractions, comparing fractions, and estimating fractions. Students can review for the test using the Fractions Review Quizizz linked in their MATH Canvas course. The test will be on Friday, February 13th.
🏡Weekly Homework: Spiral Review Week 13 - Due Friday, February 13th. (available on Friday, 6th)
🧪 Science - This week, we will begin a new unit on Weathering. Students will be able to model and describe slow changes to Earth's surface caused by weathering from water, wind and ice. They will conduct an investigation to observe the changes made when adding water, wind and ice to sand.
📚 Reading - Fourth graders are continuing their learning in Module 7 as we explore the role of the trickster in traditional stories from around the world. Students will analyze how trickster characters use clever actions, problem-solving, and sometimes mischief to achieve their goals. Through engaging “Would You Rather” discussions, debates, and close text analysis activities, students will think critically about character choices, motives, and outcomes while strengthening their comprehension and speaking skills.
🏡Weekly Homework: Spiral Review Grammar - Due Friday, February 13th
✏️ Writing - Students will be adding to their tall tale writings to include trickster elements that we uncover in our reading discussions and exemplar texts into their own writings.
🌏 Social Studies - In Social Studies this week students will explore important Texas historical documents, including constitutions, declarations, and treaties. They will learn how these documents shaped Texas history and government. As a hands-on activity, students will create their own classroom constitution, negotiate rules together, and sign a class declaration to practice civic responsibility and collaboration.

NEW! Weekly Math Spiral Review Homework
Beginning the week of January 12th, your child will have a weekly math spiral review to complete at home. The homework assignment will be found in your child’s Math Canvas Course under the “🏠Homework🏠” Module. Each homework assignment will be available the Friday before in case your child wants to work on it early. The homework will be due each Friday by 7:30 a.m.

Beginning the week of January 12th, your child will have a weekly Grammar spiral review to complete at home. The homework assignment will be found in your child’s ELAR Canvas Course under the “🏠Homework🏠” Module. Each homework assignment will be available the Friday before in case your child wants to work on it early. The homework will be due each Friday by 7:30 a.m.
Lunch for fourth grade is from 12:20-12:50. Don’t forget to set up a lunch account for your child in the cafeteria. We will use our "Forget Me Not" system again this year. If a student forgets his/ her lunch, parents may bring it to school before lunchtime. Please leave it on the shelf in the lobby (labeled with the student's name). Teachers will remind students to check the shelf before lunch.
Please have your child bring a pair of headphones with them daily. Students use headphones frequently to complete various activities and assessments.
We invite your child to bring a healthy snack to school each day. The snack needs to be something that is not messy and does not require silverware. We are going to be eating and working at the same time. Any snack that contains candy is not considered healthy. A few suggestions are: goldfish, cheerios, pretzels, grapes, raisins, carrots, etc. Your child’s snack must also be NUT-FREE.

Arrival
Students report to the cafeteria starting at 7:25. Then they will be released from the cafeteria to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m. The tardy bell is at 7:35 a.m.
Ride Changes
If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office via email by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs. When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of us is out of the office.
Pick up Reminder
Students should be promptly picked up after school at 3:05. We appreciate your efforts to be on time to pick up your child. Finally, when dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your car all the way down to the end of the line. Duty personnel will send your child down to your car. This keeps the traffic flowing. Don’t forget your School Safe ID Number. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
