Curriculum
🧮 Math - This week in math, the students will learn how to find the perimeter and area of squares, rectangles, and irregular shapes. The student will learn how to use the formulas (P = l + l + w + w & A= l x w) to find the perimeter and area.
🏡Weekly Homework: Spiral Review Week 16 - Due Friday, March 6th. (available on Friday, 27th)
🧪 Science - This week, we will learn about Critical Energy Resources. Students will learn how the ways people handle the energy resources around them can have an impact on the area where they live and Earth as a whole. We will learn ways that we can help conserve our resources. Students will design an awareness poster to teach and remind others to protect our resources.
📚 Reading - Fourth graders will begin work on their analysis of paired passages to make connections between texts. We will work on identifying key terms in questions and comparing texts. Students will need to make inferences and determine the author's purpose in word choice and structure.
⭐ Last week's kick off on PARENT Calls was a success! Shout out to Mrs. Garland, Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. Kansagra and Mrs. Curtis! Remember: Teacher will randomly select parent during each class and ask, “Can you name one of our STAAR vocabulary words from this week?” If the answer is correct, the entire class earns a treat! Note: you can be called more than once! Keep reading weekly so you are prepared.

🏡Weekly Homework: Spiral Review Grammar - Due Friday, March 6th and i ready =40 lessons
✏️ Writing - Students will finalize their writing pieces for open house. Students will receiving feedback on ECR/SCR prompts with conferencing and peer reviews using the rubric.
🌏 Social Studies - This week in Social Studies, students will be learning about Texas before the railroads and the Railroad Boom, as well as the impact of trains on the economy and nearby communities.
March 5- Open House at 6:00 p.m. and Dad's Club Movie Night at 7:00 p.m.
March 10- Spring Picture Day. ( individual and class photos taken)
March 13- NO SCHOOL for Students/Instructional Planning Day for Teachers only
March 16-20 SPRING BREAK

NEW! Weekly Math Spiral Review Homework
Beginning the week of January 12th, your child will have a weekly math spiral review to complete at home. The homework assignment will be found in your child’s Math Canvas Course under the “🏠Homework🏠” Module. Each homework assignment will be available the Friday before in case your child wants to work on it early. The homework will be due each Friday by 7:30 a.m.

Weekly Grammar Spiral Review Homework
Beginning the week of January 12th, your child will have a weekly Grammar spiral review to complete at home. The homework assignment will be found in your child’s ELAR Canvas Course under the “🏠Homework🏠” Module. Each homework assignment will be available the Friday before in case your child wants to work on it early. The homework will be due each Friday by 7:30 a.m.
Lunch for fourth grade is from 12:20-12:50. Don’t forget to set up a lunch account for your child in the cafeteria. We will use our "Forget Me Not" system again this year. If a student forgets his/ her lunch, parents may bring it to school before lunchtime. Please leave it on the shelf in the lobby (labeled with the student's name). Teachers will remind students to check the shelf before lunch.
Please have your child bring a pair of headphones with them daily. Students use headphones frequently to complete various activities and assessments.
We invite your child to bring a healthy snack to school each day. The snack needs to be something that is not messy and does not require silverware. We are going to be eating and working at the same time. Any snack that contains candy is not considered healthy. A few suggestions are: goldfish, cheerios, pretzels, grapes, raisins, carrots, etc. Your child’s snack must also be NUT-FREE.

Arrival
Students report to the cafeteria starting at 7:25. Then they will be released from the cafeteria to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m. The tardy bell is at 7:35 a.m.
Ride Changes
If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office via email by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs. When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of us is out of the office.
Pick up Reminder
Students should be promptly picked up after school at 3:05. We appreciate your efforts to be on time to pick up your child. Finally, when dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your car all the way down to the end of the line. Duty personnel will send your child down to your car. This keeps the traffic flowing. Don’t forget your School Safe ID Number. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
