iReady Testing
As we begin our first full week of school, I wanted to share with you that we are preparing to take the i-Ready online Beginning of Year Diagnostic Assessment. Our class will take the assessment on the following days:
iReady Math- Beginning August 19
iReady Reading- Beginning August 26
This first i-Ready Diagnostic will help me better understand your student’s strengths and areas for growth in reading and mathematics. The most important thing we can do together is prepare students and motivate them to put forth their best effort.
Here are a few things you can do to help support your student:
Make sure they get a good night’s rest before taking the online assessment.
Talk to your student about why the assessment is important. You can say things like:
The test will help you find out what you know, what you are ready to learn, and it will help you get “just the right” lessons.
Try your best, and do not rush—but don’t spend too much time on a question that you do not know the answer to.
Remember, questions on the test change based on your answers to earlier questions. You will see some questions you don’t know on content you haven’t been taught yet. That is okay! Just try your best.
Let them know you’re excited to hear about how it goes and to ask them about their experience.
We’re eager to partner with you in your student’s learning! Following the diagnostic, we will be sharing their results and student goals with you. Please reach out if you have any questions.
If you were unable to attend the 3rd grade Curriculum Night, here is the link to the presentation. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher.
Gently used picture books, chapter books, and old magazines are always welcome donations for our classrooms. (Magazines will be used for a special project at the end of the school year and will not be in the hands of students.)
Thank you for all of your support!
Breakfast, Snacks, and Water
Please be sure that your child eats a good breakfast before school. We start our day as soon as they walk in the door. Please send a small (peanut-free) snack and refillable water bottle with your child each morning.
Chromebooks and Headphones
Please be sure your child has either a working set of earbuds or headphones that can be left at school. We need them for the work that we do with technology. We kindly ask that you avoid wireless earbuds/headphones. They do not work well with Chromebooks. Also, please help remind your child each night to charge their Chromebooks!
Birthdays
Birthdays are special! We will celebrate your child's special day by singing in our classroom. You may send in small treats like pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. if you choose. Please refrain from sending in any food items. If you do send in any food item, it needs to be individually wrapped with the nutrition label.
