Learning Objectives:
Math: Students will gather data and represent it in frequency tables, dot plots, pictographs and bar graphs. Students will analyze graphs and answer questions.
On Monday, please check your child's GREAT Tiger folder for their weekly math homework. It is due back to school by Friday.
ELAR: Students will explain relationships among characters, the influence of the setting on the plot, identify and explain the author's purpose, and the author's use of text structure. We will work on monitoring comprehension and will make adjustments to improve understanding when needed.
We will take our Module 6 Assessment on Wednesday, January 28. Please start reviewing with your child now. This will help set your child up with strong study skills for the future.
How many nights per week should my child read? 6-7!
Science: Students will compare and describe day-to-day weather in different locations at the same time, including air temperature, wind direction, and precipitation.
Social Studies: Students will develop and use map skills to interpret and create maps.
Gently used picture books, chapter books, and old magazines are always welcome donations for our classrooms. (Magazines will be used for a special project at the end of the school year and will not be in the hands of students.)
Thank you for all of your support!
Absences/Ride Changes
If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please be sure to email your child's teacher, Ms. Sierra sierra.salter@gcisd.net and Nurse Katy katy.faught@gcisd.net. It's important for all of these staff members to be contacted in order for your child's attendance to be entered in correctly in Skyward. Thank you!
When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of them is out of the office.
Breakfast, Snacks, and Water
Please be sure that your child eats a good breakfast before school. We start our day as soon as they walk in the door. Please send a small (peanut-free) snack and refillable water bottle with your child each morning.
Chromebooks and Headphones
Please be sure your child has either a working set of earbuds or headphones that can be left at school. We need them for the work that we do with technology. We kindly ask that you avoid wireless earbuds/headphones. They do not work well with Chromebooks. Also, please help remind your child each night to charge their Chromebooks!
Birthdays
Birthdays are special! We will celebrate your child's special day by singing in our classroom. You may send in small treats like pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. if you choose. Please refrain from sending in any food items. If you do send in any food item, it needs to be individually wrapped with the nutrition label.
