ELAR (Ms. Dagger)
This week in reading class, we will finish our unit on the history of the Rockefeller Christmas tree and discuss figurative language. At the end of the week, the students will participate in Candy Cane Olympics!
Math (Ms. Lee)
The students are finishing Unit 6 Order of Operations and Algebraic Reasoning. The students have learned how to write equations for missing variables and order of operations (PEMDAS). The test for this Unit will be Monday, December 15.
Homework
The students will not have any homework this week. We will resume the first full week back after break.

Science/SS (Ms. Whelan)
This week in science we will be continuing our unit on the earth's rotation. We will be continuing to talk about how day changes to night, the changes in season is caused, and how the different placements of the sun in sky cause different types of shadows.
In social studies we will be doing some fun units on holidays around the world, and how they are celebrated. There are lots of fun activities this week, as we gear up for the holiday break!
Winter Holiday Party
The students will have their winter party on December 18 from 10:45-11:30 in the cafeteria. You are welcome to join your child for the party. Every student is asked to bring a "wrapped" $5.00 gift card to school by December 16. If you are unable to do this, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.

We have started a 5th grade instagram page for you to follow all the happenings in 5th grade!! Please find us @ OCT5th2026.
We are continuing to use the dismissal procedure called SafeID. This system is more streamlined and much safer for dismissal times. If your child's form of transportation home changes, PLEASE let the front office know by calling or emailing sierra.salter@gcisd.net and paola.cervantes@gcisd.net as quickly as possible and before 2:00.

Chromebooks
Please have your child charge their chromebook each evening and bring it to school along with the charger and headphones.
