Curriculum
🧮 Math - This week, the students will review concepts that we have learned during the first semester. The students will participate in an escape room where they will solve problems with multiplication, division, vocabulary and more. We will also do a brief review of fractions to kickstart our next unit.
🧪 Science - This week, students played review games such as Gimkit and Blooket to review science skills learned so far this year. We will continue our unit on Patterns of the Moon when we return from winter break.
📚 Reading: This week, students will continue exploring figurative language—but with a festive holiday twist! We’ll be reviewing and creating examples of similes, metaphors, alliteration, idioms, personification, and onomatopoeias. Students will apply these skills in fun, seasonal activities that strengthen their understanding while adding a bit of holiday cheer to our learning.

NEXT CLUB meeting: TBD
We understand that as the children are getting older, they are starting to see things differently, and we respect that they are growing up and forming their own ideas. However, we wanted to ask for your help in making this holiday season just as magical for those who still believe. Santa is such an exciting and heartwarming tradition, and for many children, it’s one of the things that makes the holidays so special. Please have a conversation with your child about keeping the magic alive for those who still believe.
In the afternoon on December 17th, 4th grade will watch Dr. Seuss' The Grinch (2018). Your child is welcome to bring a movie snack (one salty & one sweet), small pillow, and blanket that can fit in their backpack.
**Please email your child's homeroom teacher by Tuesday 12/15 if you do not want your child to participate.
Thank you for taking the time to read ALL of the newsletter! Please tell your student the secret phrase “A good attitude can turn any learning from Grinchy to GRrrreat!.” so they can earn 2 house points and 2 tickets for our raffle!
Reading Module TIPS
Have yourchild keep a growing list of the Critical Vocabulary words. Quiz each other on their meanings.
Reading Check in:
I ready my path
Anything that your child does not finish in class will be homework. It will be marked as "Math HW" in their orange GREAT Tiger Folder. We would also like for your child to work on their multiplication and/or division facts for 10 minutes each night.
Students read for at least 20 minutes or more every night. Pass 2 i-ready lessons each week. Any unfinished work is homework. Contiue over break!
Lunch for fourth grade is from 12:20-12:50. Don’t forget to set up a lunch account for your child in the cafeteria. We will use our "Forget Me Not" system again this year. If a student forgets his/ her lunch, parents may bring it to school before lunchtime. Please leave it on the shelf in the lobby (labeled with the student's name). Teachers will remind students to check the shelf before lunch.
Please have your child bring a pair of headphones with them daily. Students use headphones frequently to complete various activities and assessments.
We invite your child to bring a healthy snack to school each day. The snack needs to be something that is not messy and does not require silverware. We are going to be eating and working at the same time. Any snack that contains candy is not considered healthy. A few suggestions are: goldfish, cheerios, pretzels, grapes, raisins, carrots, etc. Your child’s snack must also be NUT-FREE.
Student Absences
If your student is absent for any reason, please email the following people:
your child's teacher
copy: paola.cervantes@gcisd.net and elissa.faught@gcisd.net
Arrival
Students report to the cafeteria starting at 7:25. Then they will be released from the cafeteria to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m. The tardy bell is at 7:35 a.m.
Ride Changes
If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office via email by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs. When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of us is out of the office.
Pick up Reminder
Students should be promptly picked up after school at 3:05. We appreciate your efforts to be on time to pick up your child. Finally, when dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your car all the way down to the end of the line. Duty personnel will send your child down to your car. This keeps the traffic flowing. Don’t forget your School Safe ID Number. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
Communication
Please feel free to contact your homeroom teacher if you have any concerns or questions. We are happy to meet in person, call or email. We want to help immediately with any issues that arise.
As needs arise in our classrooms, we will put them here. We really appreciate your support for us and our students!
