What are we learning?
Math
I can use objects and pictorial models to solve problems involving joining and separating to 20 where the result is unknown.
I can act out story problems.
ELAR
I can spell words with the Floss Rule such as pass, buzz, off, will, boss, mess, puff, toss, yell, fuss. (Spelling Test on Friday, September 26th).
I can recognize characteristics of informational text.
I can identify features of realistic fiction.
I can answer questions and discuss meanings to develop vocabulary.
I can develop drafts in oral, pictorial, or written form by organizing with structure and developing an idea with specific and relevant details.
Social Studies

Science
I can demonstrate and explain that a whole object is a system made of organized parts that can be taken apart and put back together.

Reminders
Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences
Please check your email for a message from your child’s teacher that was sent on Friday, September 19th. Included in the message is a link to sign up for a conference with your child’s teacher to discuss beginning of the year assessment results and goals for this school year.
Reading Volunteers
Please email your child's teacher if you are interested in reading with students in the hallway one day a week. Please also let your child's teacher know your preferred day and/or days. We will begin having volunteers starting on Monday, September 29 from 10:00 - 10:30.
A finalized schedule will be emailed to you by the end of the week.
In order to be a volunteer, you must have attended the Volunteer Orientation and completed the criminal background check. All volunteers are required to reapply EACH YEAR.

Daily Reading at Home
Teachers have completed all beginning of the year assessments. Your child will be bringing a book bag home with a book to read and sight words to practice this week. Students are expected to read daily at home. Please also have your child cut out the sight words provided inside the book bag. Students should be able to read, spell, and write their sight words, "in a snap."
Progress Reports
Your child's 1st 6 weeks progress report will be available to view in Skyward on Wednesday, September 24th. Progress reports are available at the 6th week of the reporting period. Final report cards are available at approximately the 9th week of the reporting period. You will be able to view both reports in Skyward. We will let you know in the newsletter when reports are available to view in Skyward.

Weekly Library Schedule
Students will check out a new book from the library weekly as long as they return their old books. Please help your child remember to put library books back in his/her backpack after reading them at home. This will help ensure that your child gets to check out a new book at the library every time!

Volunteers
We will need volunteers this year for field trips and other opportunities! In order to be a volunteer, you must have attended the Volunteer Orientation and completed the criminal background check. All volunteers are required to reapply EACH YEAR.

Student Absences
Please email your homeroom teacher and copy Sierra Salter, sierra.salter@gcisd.net any time your Tiger will be absent.
Ride changes
If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please email your child's teacher, Ms. Paola, and Ms. Sierra by at least 2:00 pm.
iPad and Charger
Please be sure your child brings his/her 100% charged iPad AND charger to school every day. If your child is new to OCT, we are working on getting your child a device as soon as possible.
