Curriculum

🧮 Math - This week, we will begin our Fractions unit. The students will show the relationship between decimals and fractions using models such as Base 10 blocks in the tenths and hundredths place.

🏡Weekly Homework: Spiral Review Week 10 - Due Friday, January 16th. (available on Friday, January 9th)

🧪 Science -In Science this week, the students will learn about how the moon's appearance changes based on it's location. They will participate in investigations, read articles, and completed gamified activities to check their understanding before taking a quiz independently.

📚 Reading - This week, In module 6 , students will listen to, read, and view a variety of texts that present them with information about Earth’s natural wonders. A genre focus on informational text provides students with opportunities to identify text and graphic features, central ideas, and text structures in order to better understand unfamiliar texts. Students will also encounter poetry and literary nonfiction to build knowledge across genres. For week 1 we will begin looking at a poem for Mariana Trench. We'll explore: What makes Earth’s natural wonders exciting and unique?

✏️ Writing - We'll be writing our goals as we reflect on 2025 moving into the new year.

🌏 Social Studies - In Social Studies, the students will learn how the Texas Constitution of 1836 is similar and different from the U.S. Constitution. We will also read about some of the challenges and successes of becoming our own Texas republic.

🧮Math Homework

NEW! Weekly Math Spiral Review Homework

Beginning the week of January 12th, your child will have a weekly math spiral review to complete at home. The homework assignment will be found in your child’s Math Canvas Course under the “🏠Homework🏠” Module. Each homework assignment will be available the Friday before in case your child wants to work on it early. The homework will be due each Friday by 7:30 a.m.

📖Reading Homework

Students read for at least 20 minutes or more every night. Pass 2 i-ready lessons each week. Any unfinished work is homework. Contiue over break!

Lunch

Lunch for fourth grade is from 12:20-12:50. Don’t forget to set up a lunch account for your child in the cafeteria. We will use our "Forget Me Not" system again this year. If a student forgets his/ her lunch, parents may bring it to school before lunchtime. Please leave it on the shelf in the lobby (labeled with the student's name). Teachers will remind students to check the shelf before lunch.

🎧Headphones

Please have your child bring a pair of headphones with them daily. Students use headphones frequently to complete various activities and assessments.

Snacks

We invite your child to bring a healthy snack to school each day. The snack needs to be something that is not messy and does not require silverware. We are going to be eating and working at the same time. Any snack that contains candy is not considered healthy. A few suggestions are: goldfish, cheerios, pretzels, grapes, raisins, carrots, etc. Your child’s snack must also be NUT-FREE.

Arrival

Students report to the cafeteria starting at 7:25. Then they will be released from the cafeteria to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m. The tardy bell is at 7:35 a.m.

Ride Changes

If you find your child must go home a different way than planned, please notify the office via email by at least 2:00 p.m. Teachers and our front office staff do not always have access to email or are busy teaching or helping others. A phone call is required. Sometimes we have only one person in the front office, so we want to provide ample time to be able to meet your needs. When making ride changes, picking up students for appointments and absences, please email both Sierra Salter (sierra.salter@gcisd.net) and Paola Cervantes (paola.cervantes@gcisd.net) in case one of us is out of the office.

Pick up Reminder

Students should be promptly picked up after school at 3:05. We appreciate your efforts to be on time to pick up your child. Finally, when dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your car all the way down to the end of the line. Duty personnel will send your child down to your car. This keeps the traffic flowing. Don’t forget your School Safe ID Number. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
