ELAR (Ms. Dagger)
Last week we completed our first Module Test of 5th grade. I was impressed with the scores, it was a great way to start the school year.
Please click here to read our weekly reading newsletter.
Remember to set a time to read each night at home. Reading at home increases comprehension skills, as well as vocabulary. Find a challenging word in your child's reading that they may not know the meaning of. Ask them to figure out what the word means based on the sentences around it. Ask them: What clues does the author give?
Math (Ms. Lee)
WOW!! Thank you so much for all the wonderful birthday gifts, cards, and love from your children!! You all made my day so wonderful. I appreciate you all thinking of me!!
Your children rocked the first math test of the school year!! I am so proud of all their hard work and effort!! I have entered their test score into skyward!
The next unit the students will learn how to multiply and divide larger numbers. For example, they will multiply up to three digits by two digits and divide by a two digit divisor.
Homework
Students will need to complete 45 minutes in i-Ready and 4 fluency checks. Please note that for each fact fluency session, the students can only do one per day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at anne.hurstlee@gcisd.net.
Science/SS (Ms. Whelan)
This week in science, students will be learning to compare and contrast matter based on solubility and physical state. We will incorporate hands-on learning, reading, and writing to make sure we master the subject.
In SS, students will continue to learn about how the U.S. is divided into different regions, but we will be focusing on the economic and political similarities and differences of each one.
