ELAR (Ms. Dagger)
In reading, we will begin Module 7. In this module, we will read a variety of texts about explorations. This week, we will read Into the Unknown: Above and Beyond. Students will analyze characteristics of informational text, including diagrams. We will also recall details that support the author's central idea.
In grammar, we will focus on pronouns.
In writing, we will continue perfecting our ECR, as well as work on our Open House writing project.
Remember to set a time to read each night at home. Reading at home increases comprehension skills, as well as vocabulary.
After students read, focus on the central idea of the story. Ask the following questions:
What is the entire book or article mostly about?
What is the central idea of a specific paragraph?
Can you find the main idea in the title or headings? What do they tell you?
Math (Ms. Lee)
The students are working on Unit 8 called Data Analysis. The students learn how to collect, organize, display, and interpret data for frequency tables, dot plots, stem and leaf plots, and scatterplots.
Homework
The students will need to complete 45 minutes in i-Ready this week along with 4 fluencies.
Your children did amazing on our Math Interim!! I am very proud of all of them. Each child has their own interim plan to work on skills for mastery. They have time in class to work on some of the interim plan but will need at times to work on it at home.

Science/SS (Ms. Whelan)
We will be spending the first few days this week reviewing several science concepts we will see on our next unit test (this Wednesday!) This includes lessons we had before Christmas break, so we will be reaching WAY back in our memories! The students will be working on a review and we will be practicing in class at the beginning of the week.
Feel free to use the reviews to study at home!
This week I will also begin pulling specialized groups in science, according to their STAAR science interim results. We will be reviewing concepts that were missed, as well as reviewing how we could have improved on our short constructed response question.
In social studies we wrapped up Unit 5 last week with our test, and will be starting a new unit over the Civil War and Reconstruction. This is usually an interesting topic for students, and I hope we will have time for some fun related activities!
