Word of Mouth Referrals (WOM) Asking for referrals - Asking clients for referrals can be daunting. REMEMBER, you have built trust and respect from your clients. You are helping them and they are more than happy to help you grow as a practitioner TIMING: When to ask for WOM referral There are plenty of times to identify the right opportunity to ask for a referral. pick the right time and use your communication skills to identify when the client presents in the right mood and scenario to happily listen to your request.
- Upon their last appointment (eg. work cover client finishes treatment) Script: "[name], you have done so well with your recovery and I am glad to have helped you recover from X. I really enjoy working with people with similar injuries/illness to what you have gone through and want to help more people in our community. Do you know a specific friend or family member that could benefit from my help? I'm going to give you this card and I want you to give it to someone who is always complaining of X. Can you do that for me (make sure you get them to agree with a handshake or with some form of commitment)." - When client achieves goal in treatment (the big win) Script: "[name], you have nailed your treatment plan and I am so happy to have helped you achieve X. I really enjoy working with people who have gone through what you have and want to help more people in our community. I'm going to give you this card and I want you to give it to someone who is always complaining of X. Can you do that for me? (make sure you get them to agree with a handshake or with some form of commitment)." - When a client with long term condition is showing engagement and enjoyment in treatment (creating a great experience) Script: "[name], you have been doing so well lately (bring up a win) and seem to be enjoying yourself seeing us. How have you been feeling with your progress so far? "Get positive feedback" I have a favour to ask you. I really enjoy working with people who have gone through what you have and want to help more people in our community with [insert ideal client/avatar]. Do you know anyone at the Bowls Club you go to that has a similar problem/complaint? "yes I do" I'm going to give you this card and I want you to give it to someone who is always complaining of X. Can you do that for me? (make sure you get them to agree with a handshake or with some form of commitment)."
