Hydrotherapy or Aquatic Therapy can be useful for clients who
Struggle with weight-bearing due to pain (eg. compression #) or function (eg. Physical Disability)
Struggle with balance training in weight-bearing
Benefit from increased proprioceptive and/or sensory input (eg. Neurological conditions, autism spectrum disorder)
Need reduced loading, but regular movement (eg. Acute/Sub-acute MSK injury)
Hydrotherapy can be booked in after an initial consultation. This assesses suitability and safety for aquatic exercise. We also ensure that treatment planning indicates that aquatic exercise may be an adjunct to land based therapy or transitional towards progressing to land based exercise.
Contraindications to Aquatic Therapy
Active wound and/or bleeding
Infectious conditions
Bowel or Bladder impairments
Epilepsy
Impaired cognition
Cardiac complications

Impaired thermal regulation
Multiple Sclerosis: Hot water/heat related flare ups (can be weaker during heat)
Pregnancy and hot water
Fear of water
