Use Sodium Thiosulphate to clean equipment. iodine bottle are already made up in stock tray
Iodine in Cabinet 1,
Iodine Can be crush in a fume cupboard to dissolve quickly. Any left over Iodine and equipment use has to be clean with has to be clear with Sodium Thiosulphate 1.m. And Rinse with Distilled water after use.
Make a .05 molar solution that could be diluted to 0.01m solution for starch practical.
Preparing aqueous iodine solutions (in potassium iodide) recipe 50 Quantity for 250ml at 1mol. (usually make 2 bottle of 250ml for this pract. )
1. Wear eye protection and work in a well-ventilated room. Wear disposable (or chemical resistant)
gloves.
2. Weigh out the indicated quantity of potassium iodide (KI) (20g) into an appropriate-sized beaker.
3. Moisten the potassium iodide with a few drops of water.
4. Weigh out the indicated quantity of iodine(I)(6.35g) and add it to the moistened potassium iodide.
5. Add a small volume of water and stir. When no more iodine 6.35 appears to dissolve, add some
more water and stir. Keep repeating this procedure until all the iodine has dissolved.
6. Pour the solution into a measuring cylinder (or laboratory jug) and dilute to the final volume (250ml).
Mix well.
Make sure there are no bits of iodine remaining. If there are, return the solution to the beaker
and leave it on a magnetic stirrer for several minutes.
7. Pour the solution into a labelled bottle. Include hazard warning and/or control measure
information on the label if appropriate.
