Sugar & Yeast Fermentation (Test Tube Method)

1. Label 3 boiling tubes 1,2 and 3 (larger 

2. Place 2 spatulas of yeast into each tube.

3. Then place 1,2 or 3 spatulas of sugar into the corresponding numbered tube.

4. Add 20ml of warm water (from water bath set at 40 degrees celsius)

5. Place a balloon over each tube.

6. Wait for a reaction to take place and the balloons to start to inflate.

7. Record the reaction time of each test tube.

Equipment Required:

• Test tube rack

• 3 x boiling tubes

• Glass pen

• Yeast

• Sugar

• Spatula

• Balloon

• Measuring cylinder (25ml)

• Stop clock
