9.1 Chromatography :   HazCard :

• Pestle and mortar or use a hand blender, in 600ml glass beaker , wash glass (for kids to collect)

• A small quantity of washed and dry sand

• Muslin cloth Filter paper

• Test tube and rack

• Filter funnel

• scissor

• propanone 50cc  (Eye Protection- not to be breath flammable)

• Plant material (Spinach)

• Pipette 5cc or teat pipette

• Glass capillary tube

• Chromatography paper 80 mm long X 20mm wide

• boiling tube with bung

•  drawing pin

• HB/2H pencil

• solvent (one part propanone, nine parts petroleum ether (b.p 80-100o)) 20cc  (Eye Protection- not to be breath flammable)

• hair dryer or fan (or waving the paper in the air)

• pipette 10 cc and pipette filler

• Waste beaker for wasted solvent

Access To :

• Centrifuge and 2 centrifuge tubes   extra left for 5min to rest

• Powerful light source OHP

• Distilled water
