DEMO :

• Prepared sample of rainwater Doctored to pH5

• Prepared sample of Distilled water

• 1.0 mol/dm-3 HCl

• calcium carbonate chips

Water pollution, testing water : test for Ions

• Large beaker to use at water bath

• 2 X kettle

• Test tube and Spotting tiles

• Lots of pipettes

Test A : Distilled water

Test B : Ammonium nitrate with few drop of ammonia (Level A) Boiling tube, red litmus, distilled water bottle to damps the litmus paper paper,  pipettes, beakers and kettle to heat up ammonium nitrate

Test C : Lead nitrate (A level cupboard) Boiling tubes, pipette, beaker for disposal

Test D : Copper Sulphate, spotting tiles, pipettes, 

Test for Sulphate ions a few drops of lead nitrate beaker for waste

Test for copper ions a few drop of sodium hydroxide

Test E : Lead nitrate and ammonium nitrate (When ammonia is passed through an aq. solution of lead nitrate chalky white precipitate of lead hydroxide is formed which is insoluble in excess of ammonia)

Test F : Tap water
