Apparatus & chemicals Each pupil/group needs :
100 cm3 measuring cylinder

paper with suitable black cross (drawn with Sharpie style pen)
Chemicals :
0.1 mol/dm3 sodium thiosulfate solution (250 cm3 per student) make 4L/class
0.1 mol/dm3 iron (III) nitrate solution (250 cm3 per student make 4L/class
0.1 mol/dm3 copper sulfate solution (20 cm3 per student) 100ml /class
0.1 mol/dm3 cobalt chloride solution (20 cm3 per student) 100ml/class (Not done with Mat2023)
0.1 mol/dm3 iron (II) sulfate solution (20 cm3 per student) 100ml/class
For the displacement practical you can make it up in water and add couple of cm³ of H2SO4, its just enough to keep it from oxidising for a couple of days but not enough to give a noticeable reaction with the metals.
0.1 mol/dm3 nickel (II) sulfate solution (20 cm3 per class) 100ml/class (Not done with at 2023)
Notes :
It is very important that the students do not cross contaminate the sodium thiosulfate and iron (III) nitrate solutions. It is very important that the solutions are the correct concentration for this to work
