Practical 9.1 Cracking of Hydrocarbons

Catalytic Cracking liquid paraffin              GAs ON                          HazCard :

• Catalytic cracking boiling tubes 7A1 clean after each use and set up ready for next use

• Liquid paraffin (in tray 7A1)

• Delivery tubes 7A1 (make sure delivery tubing Bunsen valve is ok)

• Trough

• Test tubes and bungs to collect gas in and part 1

• Bunsen burner, HPM, Gauze, Tripod

• Restore Stand

• Splint part 1

• pipettes

Clean apparatus with soap and hot water

check tubing is not block by melted bungs

dirty Boiling tube to be dispose in contaminated glass use pirex tube

Chemical : (optional)

• Bromine Water 0.01 M dilute to pale yellow- orange colour. (about 2cc) To test for alkene (Oxidation) 

• Acidified potassium(VII) Manganate, about 0.02M about 2cc To test for alkene (oxidation)

• Praffin for part 1

• Mineral wool for part 1 , Brocken crucibles gloves (In cracking trays)
