What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
It means being able to make my parents happy and proud after all the support they have given me over the past 4 years. It means so much more than a college degree, it is hard to explain in words.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
Founding a new student ran organization in the Data Science department to support underrepresented students. Being able to give younger students something that I didn't have during my undergrad is something I am very proud of and a very rewarding feeling.
What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?
Don't give up, find people who allow you to be yourself, and find your source of motivation behind all of this.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
My older sisters who were role models to me and allowed me to see what it was like to be successful in college.
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
The Newman Catholic community helped me find myself and my faith with a loving and welcoming community. They have helped me grow as an individual and there are not enough words to thank Father Boom and Father Manh.
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
I will start a new IT job with SDG&E (San Diego Gas & Electricity) in the upcoming weeks!
