• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?/Que significa para ti ser un graduado universitario de primera generación?

It means that possibilities are endless and that you are capable of changing the cycle.

Las posibilidades son infinitas y tu puedes terminar el ciclo y comenzar otro nuevo.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?/¿Cuál es su momento de mayor orgullo de su tiempo en UC San Diego

My proudest moment is when I changed my mindset from "I do not belong here" to "I do belong here". It took me a while to adapt into a new environment and when I did things changed for the best

Cuando cambie mi manera de pensar de "yo no pertenezco aquí" a "Yo sí pertenezco aquí". Me tomo tiempo para adaptarme a un ambiente diferente y cuando logre adaptarme las cosas cambiaron para bien.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?/¿Qué consejo tienes para los estudiantes de primera generación actuales o futuros?

My best advice is to go out of your comfort zone and explore new things, college is when you are able to learn more about yourself as you transition from adolescent to adulthood. Also remember that grades do not define who you are and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Professor, Staff and any other resource are there to better support you so take advantage of that. Lastly remind yourself you are here for a reason and you are capable of doing the same things as others.

Mi mejor consejo es que salgas de tu zona de confort y explores cosas nuevas, la universidad es cuando puedes aprender más sobre ti mismo mientras haces la transición de la adolescencia a la edad adulta. Recuerde también que las calificaciones no definen quién es usted y no tema pedir ayuda cuando la necesite. El profesor, el personal y cualquier otro recurso están ahí para brindarle un mejor apoyo, así que aproveche eso. Por último, recuerda que estás aquí por una razón y eres capaz de hacer las mismas cosas que los demás.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son los familiares, amigos o seres queridos que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de su trayectoria universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

My brothers and Parents. Even-though it was hard for my parents to understand what I was going through they were very supportive in my education. Thank you to my parents I am where I was meant to be. My brothers have also been a strong support system. Thank you to my brothers who have encouraged me throughout my 4 years in college. Thank you for all the phone call, thank you for making sure I was doing good mentally and that I was taking care of myself, thank you for listening when I was felt that it was end for my education and for providing me with a different perspective. To my friends and loved one. Thank you for giving me the strength to continue going forward. My degree not only belongs to me but it belong to them.

Mis hermanos y padres. Aunque fue difícil para mis padres entender por lo que estaba pasando, me apoyaron mucho en mi educación. Gracias a mis padres, estoy donde debía estar. Mis hermanos también han sido un fuerte sistema de apoyo. Gracias a mis hermanos que me han animado a lo largo de mis 4 años en la universidad. Gracias por todas las llamadas telefónica, gracias por asegurarse de que me estaba yendo bien mentalmente y que me estaba cuidándo, gracias por escucharme cuando sentía que era el fin de mi educación y por brindarme una perspectiva diferente. Gracias a mis amistades quienes también me brindaron su apoyo incondicional. Mi titulación no solo me pertenece sino que les pertenece a ellos

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son el personal, la facultad o los mentores que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de su trayectoria universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de gratitud que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

My supervisor and some professors in my major and minor field have been influential in the sense that they showed that they cared for the wellbeing of their students. Thank you to my supervisor who encouraged me to apply to graduate school. Thank you to all. Every single one has shown me the type of educator I want to be.

Mi supervisor, algunos profesores y consejeros en mi especialización y sub-especialización han sido influyentes en el sentido de que demostraron que se preocupaban por el bienestar de sus estudiantes. Gracias a mi supervisor que me animó a postularme a la escuela de posgrado. Gracias a todos. Cada uno me ha mostrado el tipo de educador que quiero ser.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?/¿Qué planea o espera hacer después de graduarse?

My plan is to work in community college to get more experience in my field of interest. My plan after a year is to apply into grad school once I have gained experience in my field. The long term goal is to get my PSS and the LCSW and work in a school or with the foster care services.

Mi plan es trabajar en un colegio comunitario para obtener más experiencia en mi campo de interés. Mi plan después de un año es postularme a la escuela de posgrado una vez que haya adquirido experiencia en mi campo. El objetivo a largo plazo es obtener mi PSS y LCSW y trabajar en una escuela o con los servicios de cuidado de crianza.
