• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you? / ¿Qué significa para usted ser un graduado universitario de primera generación?

Being a first-generation college graduate means that I’ve lived a life full of inspiration and motivation. My family has never failed to encourage me to follow my dreams, no matter how my plans evolve and change my path. I’m inspired by my family roots and by the perseverance imbedded in ourselves. In every difficult situation, I’ve seen my family preserve and push forward, stronger than before. This must stem from the experience my parents have lived as First-generation Americans. Graduating from UCSD is an honor I owe to my hardworking parents who raised me in a culture of hard work.

Ser un graduado universitario de primera generación significa que he vivido una vida llena de inspiración y motivación. Mi familia nunca ha fallado en animarme a seguir mis sueños, sin importar cómo evolucionen mis planes y cambie mi camino. Estoy inspirada en mis raíces familiares y por la perseverancia incrustada en nosotros mismos. En cada situación difícil, he visto a mi familia preservar y empujar hacia adelante, más fuerte que antes. Esto debe dertenerse de la experiencia que mis padres han vivido como estadounidenses de primera generación. Graduando de UCSD es un honor que le debo a mis padres trabajadores que me criaron en una cultura de trabajo duro.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD? / ¿Cuál es tu momento más orgulloso desde tu tiempo en UC San Diego?

I have had many, many happy moments from my time at UCSD, but I am most proud of my ability to prosper in classes amidst a global pandemic and grief. All graduating students should be proud to have accomplished this feat.

He tenido muchos, muchos momentos felices de mi tiempo en UCSD, pero estoy más orgulloso de mi capacidad para prosperar en las clases en medio de una pandemia global y dolor. Todos los estudiantes graduados deben estar orgullosos de haber logrado esta hazaña.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students? /¿Qué consejo tiene para los estudiantes de primera generación actuales o futuros?

Hard work and determination is in your blood. While it may seem like an uneven playing field to enter college without the parental guidance other students may have, your ability to preserver and dedicate yourself to exceeding in classes will allow you to push ahead.

El trabajo duro y la determinación están en su sangre. Puede parecer injusto ingresar a la universidad sin la guía de los padres que otros estudiantes tienen, pero tu capacidad para preservar y dedicarte a exceder en las clases le permitirá empujar hacia adelante.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them? / ¿Quiénes son los miembros de la familia, amigos o seres queridos que han sido más influyentes en su viaje de la universidad? ¿Hay palabras de gratitud que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

My strong mom, my hard-working dad, and my silly little sister. I love you and thank you for helping me grow away from home. My friends, who became my family when I needed one in San Diego. And everyone who let me join their organization, knowing I was already involved in a million more.

Mi madre fuerte, mi padre trabajador, y mi hermana pequeña. Te amo y les agradezco por ayudarme a crecer fuera de casa. Mis amigas, que se convirtieron en mi familia cuando necesitaba una en San Diego. Y todos los que me dejaron unir a su organización, sabiendo que ya estaba involucrado en un millón más.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them? / ¿Quiénes son el personal, la facultad o los mentores que han sido más influyentes en su viaje de la universidad? ¿Hay palabras de gratitud que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

The staff at Warren College and the Center for Student Involvement have practically written the pages for my guide to UCSD. With so many questions, they had double the answers and advice to offer me.

El personal de Colegio Earl Warren y el Centro de Participación de los Estudiantes prácticamente han escrito las páginas para mi guía para UCSD. Con tantas preguntas, habían duplicado las respuestas y consejos para ofrecerme.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating? / ¿Qué planeas o espero hacer después de graduarse?

This year, I’m moving to Italy for a semester to study abroad for my final credits toward my diploma. Meanwhile, I’ll be applying to law school and hopefully attending in the following year. In the future, I plan to practice law, taking on pro-bono immigration cases. During the summers, I would like to be able to afford traveling the world with my family.

Este año, me muevo a Italia por un semestre para estudiar en el extranjero para mis créditos finales hacia mi diploma. Mientras tanto, estaré aplicando a la escuela de leyes y, con suerte, asistiré en el año siguiente. En el futuro, planeo ejercer la ley, asumiendo los casos de inmigración pro-bono. Durante los veranos, me gustaría poder viajar el mundo con mi familia.
