What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
It is the culmination of years of hard work, and a testament to not just my own strength, but the love and support of family friends, and colleagues.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
Working in a lab, studying the affects of ocean acidification on crustaceans.
What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?
Never give up, no matter how long it takes, even if it's hard or seems hopeless. Have a goal, and stick to it.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
My family and friends who have aided me, and kept me calm when things did not go according to plan. I am grateful for their sticking around.
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
To all of the counselors and professors who helped me and advised me, including Dr. Taylor, Dr. Fraga, Ms. Ioele, and Ms. Gutierrez. This moment wouldn't have been possible without you all.
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
Short-term: Job, and further experience. Long-term: Graduate school for M.S./PhD
