• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you? /¿Qué significa, para ti, ser una graduada universitaria de primera generación?

To me, being a first-generation college student means that no matter what your background is or where you come from, if you act on your motivation and take initiative with your drive, you can achieve anything.

Para mí, ser un estudiante universitario de primera generación significa que sin importar tu pasado o de dónde vienes, si sigues tu motivación y tomas iniciativa con ímpetu, puedes lograr lo que sea.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD? /¿Cuál es tu momento de mayor orgullo durante tu tiempo en UC San Diego?

My proudest moment will have been formulating my long-lasting relationships with my peers, where they have taught me and expanded my perspectives on life to a next level. Also, to say that I am a UCSD alum!

El momento del que estoy más orgulloso será haber desarrollado relaciones duraderas con mis compañeros, donde ellos me han enseñado y ampliado mis perspectiva de la vida a otro nivel. Además, ¡decir que soy egresado de UCSD!

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students? /¿Qué consejo le darías a los estudiantes actuales de primera generación?

If you ever feel doubtful or incapable of completing a short-term goal while in college, remove those thoughts and replace them with action. Over time, you'll begin to notice on how much you have accomplished while attending UC San Diego by just simply taking action!

Si alguna vez te sientes inseguro o incapaz de lograr una meta a corto plazo en la universidad, elimina esos pensamientos y reemplazalos con acciones. Con el tiempo, empezarás a notar cuánto has logrado mientras estudias en UC San Diego con solo tomar acción!

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son las personas que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de tu trayectoria universitaria (amigos, familia, comunidad, seres queridos)? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que te gustaría compartir con ellos?

My roommates, friends and advisors in Muir College, along with my Project Health Management (MGT 173) professor have been the most influential during my college journey.

Mis compañeros de apartamento, amigos y consejeros del Colegio Muir, junto con mi profesor de Gestión de Proyectos de Salud (MGT 173) que ha sido el que más ha influido durante mi carrera universitaria.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son las personas de UC San Diego que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de tu trayectoria universitaria (personal, profesores, mentores, etc.)? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que te gustaría compartir con ellos?

To Professor Sherry Hayes: Thank you for believing in me and instilling the notion that I am capable of achieving my goals by just simply taking action and trying new things. You have inspired me for my future career plans!

To Haley Lomax: Even though you have moved back to your hometown and are no longer the Coordinator of Student Activities for Muir College, your time being here made Muir feel like my home away from home. You encouraged my intimidated, first-year self to get involved and meet people and I will be forever grateful!

A la Profesora Sherry Hayes: gracias por creer en mí y poner la noción de que soy capaz de lograr mis metas con simplemente tomar acción y tratar cosas nuevas. ¡Usted me ha inspirado para mis planes profesionales futuros!

A Haley Lomax: aunque regresaste a tu ciudad natal y ya no eres la Coordinadora de actividades estudiantiles del Colegio Muir, cuando lo eras hiciste que Muir se sintiera como mi hogar lejos de casa. Tu animaste a mi tímido de primer año a involucrarse y conocer gente y ¡estaré por siempre agradecido!

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?/¿Qué planeas o esperas hacer después de graduarte?

I will be completing a biotechnology internship that will transition to a full-time position at ActiveMotif, a biotechnology company based in Carlsbad, CA that is focused on epigenetics research. I then plan on working to get my Masters in Public Health, with a specialization in either Epidemiology or Healthcare Management & Policy.

Estaré terminando una pasantía en biotecnología que se convertirá en una posición de tiempo completo en ActiveMotif, una compañía de biotecnología con sede en Carlsbad, CA que está enfocada en investigación epigenética. Luego planeo trabajar en obtener mi maestría en Salud Pública, con especialidad en Epidemiología o Gestión y Política del Sistema de Salud.
