• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?/¿Qué significa, para ti, ser una graduada universitaria de primera generación?

To me, being a first-generation college graduate means that all the hard work done by me, my family and my ancestors is slowly beginning to pay off. This is an achievement beyond just me, and I can only hope it is the beginning of something better for my younger siblings, cousins, and nephews/nieces. I want better for my community and my loved ones, that has always been the final goal. This is as much my achievement as that of my parents and siblings, whom I love and appreciate so much. It's just up from here, straight to bigger and better things.

Para mí, ser una graduada universitaria de primera generación significa que todo el arduo trabajo realizado por mí, mi familia y mis antepasados ​​está comenzando a dar sus frutos poco a poco. Este es un logro más allá de mí, y solo puedo esperar que sea el comienzo de algo mejor para mis hermanos menores, primos, y sobrinos. Quiero algo mejor para mi comunidad y mis seres queridos, esa siempre a sido la meta final. Este es tanto mi logro como el de mis padres y hermanos, que tanto quiero y aprecio. Es solo para arriba desde aquí, directo hacia cosas más grandes y mejores.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?/¿Cuál es tu momento de mayor orgullo durante tu tiempo en UC San Diego?

My proudest moment during my time at UC San Diego was being able to achieve multiple quarters of Provost Honors, which were, ironically, the quarters in which I struggled the most.

Mi momento de mayor orgullo durante mi tiempo en UC San Diego fue poder lograr varios trimestres de Honores Provost, que fueron, irónicamente, los trimestres en los que más luché.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?/¿Qué consejo le darías a los estudiantes actuales de primera generación?

To current first-gen students, my best advice is to keep beating the odds. You have made it so far despite all those who maybe didn't believe in you or didn't support you. That being said, don't do it for anyone else other than yourself. Everything you do, make sure it's making you proud and leading you to become the person you want aspire to be. Lastly, everything might seem new and intimidating so do not be afraid of reaching out and asking for help, it takes a village to make it but it will all be worth it.

Para los estudiantes actuales de primera generación, mi mejor consejo es que sigan superando las probabilidades. Han llegado tan lejos a pesar de todos aquellos que tal vez no creyeron en ustedes o no los apoyaron. Dicho esto, no lo hagan por nadie más que por ustedes mismos. Todo lo que hagan, asegúrense de que los enorgullezca y los lleve a convertirse en la persona que aspiran ser. Por último, todo puede parecer nuevo e intimidante, así que no tengan miedo de pedir ayuda. Aveces se necesita un pueblo para cumplir nuestras metas, pero valdrá la pena.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son las personas que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de tu trayectoria universitaria (amigos, familia, comunidad, seres queridos)? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que te gustaría compartir con ellos?

The people that have been the most influential throughout my college journey are my family, my friends, and all the people who believed in my potential growing up. I'm beyond thankful to my mom, dad, brother and sister for always believing in me and doing whatever was in their power to make sure I accomplished everything I set my mind to. Without them, there is no way I would've accomplished everything I have so far. My family means the world to me. I'm thankful for all the amazing friends I have made these past four years, I hope we can continue to watch each other succeed and reach our dreams. To my best friend, thank you for being by my side since literal day one of our college journey, this experience was only made that much better because of you and for that I am grateful.

Las personas que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de mi trayectoria universitaria son mi familia, mis amigos y todas las personas que creyeron en mi potencial al crecer. Estoy más que agradecida con mi mamá, mi papá, mi hermano y mi hermana por creer siempre en mí y hacer todo lo que estaba en su poder para asegurarse de que yo logrará todo lo que me proponía. Sin ellos, no habría manera de que hubiera logrado todo lo que tengo hasta ahora. Mi familia lo es todo para mí. Estoy agradecida por todos los amigos increíbles que he hecho estos últimos cuatro años, espero que podamos seguir viéndonos triunfar y alcanzar nuestros sueños. Para mi mejor amiga, gracias por estar a mi lado desde literalmente el primer día de nuestra trayectoria universitaria, esta experiencia solo mejoró mucho gracias a ti y por eso estoy agradecida.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son las personas de UC San Diego que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de tu trayectoria universitaria (personal, profesores, mentores, etc.)? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que te gustaría compartir con ellos?

The people who have been the most influential throughout my college journey are Margarita Lopez and all the staff at OASIS, especially for Summer Bridge and 2Excel, programs which helped my college career be so much more enjoyable and educational. To my mentors, Carolina Tizcareño Alatorre and Verenice Velazquez, thank you for all your support and advice, I appreciate you both. I also want to thank Daniel Alfaro, Andrés Lemons, and all the staff at the Undocumented Student Services for making me feel more welcomed as a student on campus and for always providing me with so many resources to be successful. I couldn't have done it without all of you, and I'm forever grateful.

Las personas que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de mi trayectoria universitaria son Margarita López y todo el personal de OASIS, especialmente de Summer Bridge y 2Excel, programas que ayudaron a que mi carrera universitaria fuera mucho más divertida y educativa. A mis mentoras, Carolina Tizcareño Alatorre y Verenice Velazquez, gracias por todo su apoyo y consejos, les agradezco a ambas. También quiero agradecer a Daniel Alfaro, Andrés Lemons y a todo el personal de Servicios para Estudiantes Indocumentados por hacerme sentir más bienvenida como estudiante en el campus y por siempre brindarme tantos recursos para tener éxito. No podría haberlo hecho sin todos ustedes, y estaré eternamente agradecida.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?/¿Qué planeas o esperas hacer después de graduarte?

After graduating, I plan to take a gap year and start obtaining experience in the healthcare field, learning more as I go. I would also like to travel more as well. After that, I plan to return to school for my Master's Degree and hope to then fulfill my goal of focusing on healthcare administration, specifically as the head operations manager at a hospital in a community of higher needs. Throughout all of this, I also hope to enjoy more time for myself, my family, and my friends.

Después de graduarme, planeo tomarme un año sabático y comenzar a obtener experiencia en el campo de la salud, aprendiendo más sobre el trabajo que se necesita. También me gustaría viajar y explorar más. Después de eso, planeo regresar a la escuela para obtener mi maestría y espero luego cumplir con mi objetivo de enfocarme en administración de atención médica, específicamente como gerente de operaciones en jefe en un hospital en una comunidad de mayores necesidades. A lo largo de todo esto, también espero poder disfrutar de más tiempo para mí, mi familia y mis amigos.
