• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you? / Que significa para ti ser un graduado primera generación de la universidad?

Being a first generation college graduate is such a pride title to carry knowing that my parents immigrated from Mexico to the United States in search of giving their children a better life. Earning this diploma is a way to recognize their hard work, sacrifices, and all the support they gave me to make this possible.

Es un honor cargar este título ya que mis padres inmigraron de Mexico hacia los Estados Unidos en busca de una mejor vida para sus hijos. Recibiendo este diploma es una forma de reconocer todo su esfuerzo, trabajo, sacrificios, y apoyo que me brindaron para que esto fuera posible!

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD? / Cual es el momento más feliz y orgulloso de tu tiempo en la universidad de California San Diego?

Being able to interact with different individuals from different ethnic backgrounds and building a family not just within the education system but working at the school with the UCSD Police Department made me open myself up to socialize more and gain confidence in who I am.

Poder conocer a diferente personas de diferente raises y poder crear una familia no solo en el sistema de la educación pero trabajando con el departamento de policía de la escuela me hizo una persona muy sociable y crear esa confianza y independencia en mi que no tenia antes.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students? / Que consejos les darías a los estudiantes ahorita y del futuro que serán primera generación?

To keep working hard, striving for success. Anything is possible and nothing in this life comes easy, you must put in the work. There may be days when you want to give up, but remember why you started, who you are doing this for, and the benefit you will gain after you are done. If I did it as a migrant field worker and 2 parents who are immigrant field workers as well, so can you.

Que sigan trabajando duro, y luchando por ser alguien en la vida. Todo es posible y nada en esta vida es fácil, tienes que poner tu esfuerzo. Habrá días cuando te quieras dar por vencido pero recuerda porque empezaste, por quien lo estás haciendo, y el beneficio que recibirás cuando termines. Si yo lo hice como una trabajadora del campo al igual que mis padres, tú también puedes!

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them? / Quienes son los familiares, amigos, o seres queridos que han influenciado tu tiempo en la universidad? Algunas palabras de gratitud que quieras decirles?

Thank you to both my mom and dad for never leaving my side and always being there for me. As immigrant farm workers you both made it possible for me to pursue a higher education so thank you for making this degree possible as you break your backs daily in order to give us a better future. This is not just for me, but for you guys. I love you guys so so much! Thank you! Si se pudo! Thank you to my older sisters for always being there for me when I needed them, for my oldest sister Isabel and brother in law providing me hospitality as I had to be a commuter student. To my oldest sister Érica for being there and checking up on me. Thank you to my boyfriend Abraham for being a supportive partner. Always throwing positive thoughts and vibes at me and reminding me that I can do anything I set my mind to because I am a strong, smart individual. Thanks babe! Xoxo

Gracias a mi mamá y a mi papá por nunca dejarme sola y siempre estando ahí cuando los necesito. Como trabajadores del campo ustedes pudieron hacer este sueño de poder ir a una universidad posible. Así que muchas gracias por lastimarse las espaldas y romper choros de sudor solo para darnos un futuro mejor. Esto no solo es para mi si no por ustedes! Love amo muchísimo! Gracias y SI SE PUDO! Gracias a mis hermanas mayores por siempre estar ahí cuando las necesitaba. Ami hermana Isabel y ami cuñado por abrirme las puertas de su casa ya que tenia que vivir lejos de la escuela y no pude tener la oportunidad de quedarme en un dormitorio de la escuela. A mi hermana Érica por siempre estar al tanto de mi bien estar. Gracias a mi novio Abraham por ser una pareja que me brinda su apoyo en cada movida que hago. Siempre recordándome que puedo hacer todo lo que me proponga porque soy fuerte, y inteligente. Gracias amor! Besos y abrazos!

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them? / Quienes son las personas cuyo han influenciado tu tiempo en la universidad? Algunas palabras de gratitud que quieras decir?

Thank you to all my professors that I had all these 4 years for always making us feel that we could confine in them. Special shoutout to Professor Bintliff during this covid pandemic she made us feel comfortable in her class and made it known that she was there if we needed any type of support! She was a sweetheart! Thank you so much! As well big big shoutout to Lieutenant Garcia from the UCSD Police Department for always pushing me to strive for more and to never settle! Being there for me at my lowest points and at my highest! Thank you LT!

Gracias a todos mis profesores durante estos 4 años por siempre hacerme sentir que podía confiar en ellos. Especialmente a la profesora Bintliff que durante la pandemia nos hizo sentir bienvenidos en su clase y siempre nos brindó su apoyo y cariño! Es una persona muy tierna y dulce! Gracias! También un fuerte abrazo y gracias al teniente García del departamento de policía por siempre empujarme hacer más ya que tenía confianza y creía en mi potencial! Por estar ahí en mis momentos bajos y también altos! Gracias teniente!

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating? / Que planeas hacer después de graduarte?

After graduating I plan to enter the Law Enforcement career to be able to protect and serve my community. Not only that but to be able to regain that trust with the community, especially minority communities where the police trust has been broken. To be able to make them feel that I am here to protect and help them not to hurt them.

Planeo poder entrar en la carera de Policía y poder proteger y servir a mi comunidad. No solamente eso pero también poder recuperan la confianza con la comunidad especialmente con las comunidades donde la mayoría son minorities. Para poder hacer que se sientan que estoy aquí para proteger y ayudarlos y no para lastimarlos.
