• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?/¿Qué significa, para ti, ser una graduada universitaria de primera generación?

Being the first in the family to finish my degree program means that it is possible. Although the odds are not stacked in your favor, with patience, determination, and a strong ambition to persevere the challenges that lay ahead, you can accomplish what you put your mind to.

Ser el primero en la familia en terminar mi carrera significa que es posible. Aunque las probabilidades no están a tu favor, con paciencia, determinación y una fuerte ambición de perseverar en los desafíos que se avecinan, puede lograr lo que se proponga.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD? /¿Cuál es tu momento de mayor orgullo durante tu tiempo en UC San Diego?

There is saying that the two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day that you find out why. My proudest moment was when I found my why at this university. I discovered what it is that I want to do with my professional career.

Hay un dicho que dice que los dos días más importantes de tu vida son el día en que naciste y el día en que descubres por qué. Mi momento de mayor orgullo fue cuando descubrí mi razón por qué en esta universidad. Descubrí qué es lo que quiero hacer con mi carrera profesional.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students? /¿Qué consejo le darías a los estudiantes actuales de primera generación?

Your greatest breakthroughs will occur in the darkest of times. You have what it takes to make it at this level, you have what it takes to make it in life. Fall in love with the process and not the end goal, because the process is what will define you.

Tus mayores avances se producirán en los momentos más oscuros. Tienes lo que se necesita para triunfar en este nivel, tienes lo que se necesita para triunfar en la vida. Enamórate del proceso y no del objetivo final, porque el proceso es lo que te definirá.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son las personas que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de tu trayectoria universitaria (amigos, familia, comunidad, seres queridos)? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que te gustaría compartir con ellos?

All of my family members have been there for me and given their all to support me. I'd especially like to thank my father and mother because without my father, I would not have the necessary drive to pursue my passions, and without my mother, I would lose my sanity. Also, I'd like to thank Osiris for never-ending support through all the mistakes and errors I have made and for building me into a better person.

Todos los miembros de mi familia han estado ahí para mí y lo han dado todo para apoyarme. Especialmente me gustaría agradecer a mi padre y a mi madre porque sin mi padre, no tendría el impulso necesario para perseguir mis pasiones, y sin mi madre, perdería la cordura. Además, me gustaría agradecer a Osiris por su apoyo interminable a través de todos los errores que he cometido y por convertirme en una mejor persona.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son las personas de UC San Diego que han sido las más influyentes a lo largo de tu trayectoria universitaria (personal, profesores, mentores, etc.)? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que te gustaría compartir con ellos?

I would like to thank Erica Kirk from the Urban Planning & Studies Department for she has guided me through this process and works hard to make it possible for me to be here today.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?/¿Qué planeas o esperas hacer después de graduarte?

I plan on serving on the public sector for my hometown and work with non-profits to combat the homelessness crisis with have ongoing, and as time progresses, start my own development company to construct affordable housing for all.

Planeo servir en el sector público de mi ciudad natal y trabajar con organizaciones sin fines de lucro para combatir la crisis de las personas sin hogar que continúan, y en el futuro, comenzar mi propia empresa de desarrollo para construir viviendas asequibles para todos.
