• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?

Being a first generation college graduate means that I am completing my promise to my ancestors since they migrated into the US and I am making my family and my future family friends and everyone else that I know proud and making something for my future generations to remember and benefit from. This is also something as a Chicano student to prove to himself and say that I made it.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?

Becoming a Cal-Soap representative and helping low-income students apply to colleges.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?

To connect to fellow 1st generation students and even people that you can connect to in your culture because everyone starts at different points and sometimes you need that extra support from your own culture. Search for organizations and get involved.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

I love my family and my friends for helping me whenever I needed a shoulder to lean on and To everyone who has aided me in getting work done before it was due and my parents for that extra love and care they gave me when I needed it.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

Nancy Guerrero for helping me out and taking time and even find someone to help me so I can complete classes. She is someone highly dedicated in helping first generations students, and it shows.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?

Go back go community to finish some other degrees and complete my first. While also finding which careers I want to follow.
