• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?

For me being a first-generation college graduate means that I have obtained a sense of security in that I will hopefully not face the same challenges and struggles that my parents had experienced.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?

My proudest moment from my time at UC San Diego would be my team placing second in a course wide competition for constructing whirly birds. It felt rewarding to see the final product perform so well and be recognized for it.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?

It is okay to stray from the path that you originally planned for when entering college. People change and grow upon coming to college and it is okay if you do too. Also take your time in completing your education, it is not a race, regardless of the time it takes you to finish you will have your education and degree just like everyone else.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

My boyfriend has been the most motivating and comforting person to me throughout my college career. He was there for me during the times I was struggling with college the most and helped me continue pursuing my education. I want to thank you so much for all that you have done for me and continually pushing me to better myself.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?

To the whole teaching staff for SE 3, thank you. During the time I had been taking this course I had lost some confidence in my capabilities as a student and they had provided me with an environment where I could feel safe to ask questions and feel proud of the small accomplishments I made. I would like to especially thank Daniel Yang and Courtney Logsdon.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?

I hope to find a job after graduating and take some time to study for my FE.
