• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you? / ¿Qué significa para ti ser un graduado universitario de primera generación?

I am fulfilling the dream that my parents and grandparents, who migrated here, envisioned for their family. I watched my mother contract an autoimmune illness, that was caused by being under constant distress. So with me, is where my families path changes and I will make sure that my their blood, sweat, and tears were not taken in vain. This achievement is for my mother, sister, sons, spouse, and nieces/nephews that are watching.

Estoy cumpliendo el sueño que mis padres y abuelos, quienes emigraron aquí, desearon para su familia. He visto a mi madre contraer una enfermedad autoinmune que fue causada por estar bajo constante angustia. Por tanto, comingo cambia el rumbo de mi familia y me aseguraré de que mi sangre, sudor y lágrimas no sean tomados en vano. Este es un logro para mi madre, hermana, hijos, cónyuge y sobrinas / sobrinos que están observando.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD? / ¿Cuál es su momento mas orgulloso de su tiempo en UC San Diego?

Having the opportunity to volunteer, talk, and help out the homeless community in downtown San Diego.

Haber tenido la oportunidad de hacer voluntariado, hablar y ayudar a la comunidad sin techo en el centro de la ciudad de San Diego.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?/ ¿Qué consejo tienes para los estudiantes de primera generación actuales o futuros?

It won't be easy and there will be times you feel like throwing in the towel, but don't give up! Set an example and make your family proud. In the end, you'll realize it was all worth it.

No será fácil y habrá momentos en los que sientas que quieres tirar la toalla pero ¡no te rindas! Sé un ejemplo a seguir y haz que tu familia esté orgullosa. Al final, te darás cuenta de que vale la pena.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Son, I am resilient mainly because I know you're watching. I value your opinion and hope that you're proud of your momma. Te quiero mucho mas.

To my Professor Tricia Gallagher-Guertsen. I am forever grateful for your lectures that ignited my passion for education, for your guidance, and for believing in me. You advocate for the underrepresented, you are compassionate, strong, and ultimately; my biggest role-model.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?/¿Qué planeas o esperas hacer después de graduarte?

Short-term - Grad school for Education Leadership in the United Kingdom.

Long-term - I will to return to my less-affluent community and help minority students prepare and become college ready.

A corto plazo - Escuela de posgrado de liderazgo educativo en Reino Unido.
