• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?/¿Qué significa para usted ser un graduado universitario de primera generación?

Being a first-generation college student is an honor for me. I was able to break a pattern in my family with perseverance and determination. It means being unprepared for the high level of education and the expectations that come with being a student at a top public 4-year institution but believing in myself enough to push through the obstacles. It means being proud of myself.

Ser un estudiante universitario de primera generación es un honor para mí. Pude romper un patrón en mi familia con perseverancia y determinación. Significa no estar preparado para el alto nivel de educación y las expectativas que conlleva ser estudiante en una institución pública de 4 años, pero creer en mí mismo lo suficiente como para superar los obstáculos. Significa estar orgulloso de mí mismo.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD? /¿Cuál es su momento de mayor orgullo de su tiempo en UC San Diego?

My proudest moment was establishing the organization Imperial Valley Society of Outreach and Leadership and seeing it grow throughout the years. I am proud to say that I am giving back to my community and helping underrepresented students pursue higher education.

Mi momento de mayor orgullo fue establecer la organización Sociedad de Alcance y Liderazgo del Valle Imperial y verla crecer a lo largo de los años. Me enorgullece decir que estoy retribuyendo a mi comunidad y ayudando a los estudiantes subrepresentados a obtener una educación universitaria.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?/¿Qué consejo tienes para los estudiantes de primera generación actuales o futuros?

My advice is to always believe in yourself. Take rejection as a redirection and failures as lessons. Obstacles are there to make you stronger and wiser. Don't be afraid to ask for help and remember you are not alone. Surround yourself with people who support you and stay away from those who pull you down. You can do it!

Mi consejo es que creas siempre en ti mismo. Toma el rechazo como una redirección y los fracasos como lecciones. Los obstáculos están ahí para hacerte más fuerte y más sabio. No temas pedir ayuda y recuerda que no estás solo. Rodéate de personas que te apoyen y mantente alejado de aquellos que te derriban. ¡Puedes hacerlo!

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son los miembros de la familia, amigos o seres queridos que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de su trayectoria universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de gratitud que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

My rock has always been God. I thank God for all the opportunities he has given me. Thank you for blessing me and giving me the strength to keep going.

Mi roca siempre ha sido Dios. Doy gracias a Dios por todas las oportunidades que me ha brindado. Gracias por bendecirme y darme la fuerza para seguir adelante.

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son el personal, los profesores o los mentores que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de su trayectoria universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de gratitud que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

I'd like to give thanks to OASIS , its mentors, and faculty for being a great support system and guiding me throughout my college journey.

Me gustaría agradecer a OASIS, sus mentores y la facultad por ser un gran sistema de apoyo y guiarme a lo largo de mi viaje universitario.

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?/¿Qué planea o espera hacer después de graduarse?

I plan to stay in San Diego and work for UCSD as a Research Administrator. After gaining enough experience, I plan to become a financial analyst. I'd also like to stay involved in organizations that allow me to give back to my community and those in need.

Planeo quedarme en San Diego y trabajar para UCSD como Research Administrator. Después de adquirir suficiente experiencia, planeo convertirme en analista financiero. También me gustaría seguir involucrado en organizaciones que me permitan retribuir a mi comunidad y a los necesitados.
