What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
To me, being a first-generation college graduate means setting down the foundation for the future of my family in a new country. It means taking up a journey that no one else has embarked on before and going forward.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
My proudest moment during my time at UC San Diego would have to be becoming a member of Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity Inc. during my second year!
What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?
Don't be afraid to try new things and to seek for help when needed. My most meaningful experiences at UC San Diego came from taking a risk and in the process I learned something new about myself and made new connections along the way.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
My entire family, mainly my mom and sister. I am thankful for their lifelong guidance and support, their love has allowed me to bloom into the person I am today
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
Gerardo Arellano (Director of the Raza Resource Centro), Claudia Martinez (Assistant Director of the Raza Resource Centro), Lindsay Romasanta (Director of Student Success Coaching Programs), Alison Herr (Success Coach), Tori Bussey-Neal (Supervisor)
Thank you all for your guidance and help during my undergraduate career at UC San Diego, I am truly thankful for our experiences together and for the growth you all have helped me foster within my own life and for your unconditional support, it really means the world to me.
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
My plan after graduation is to pursue a post-baccalaureate program and apply for a program that will help me attain a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Additionally, I also plan on starting a non-profit organization that aims to assist low income and historically underrepresented students get into college through mentorship in the college application process and scholarship writing process too.
