• What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?/Que significa para ti ser un graduado universitario de primera generación?

Being a first-generation college graduate means a tremendous amount for me, there is some feeling of pride but also a sense of relief. It is not just about pushing the boundaries but also feeling an enormous amount of pressure from yourself and your family. It means taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone to achieve what you want for yourself.

Ser un graduado universitario de primera generación significa mucho para mí, hay algo de orgullo, pero también una sensación de alivio. No se trata solo de superar los límites, sino también de sentir una enorme presión tanto por parte de usted como de su familia. Significa tomar riesgos y salir de tu zona de confort para lograr lo que quieres para ti mismo.

• What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?/¿Cuál es su momento de mayor orgullo de su tiempo en UC San Diego

As cringy as it sounds my proudest moment at UCSD would have to be when I got my first A+ in a class during my first quarter. I think most of it came from the fact that college was nothing like how I expected it to be at all. Everyone around me seemed to be overly prepared, so to know that I was able to pull through and still succeed was an incredible feeling. That A gave me hope throughout the rest of my four years here that even at my lowest I still knew what I could achieve greatness

Tan vergonzoso como suena, mi momento más orgulloso en UCSD fue cuando obtuve mi primera A+ en una clase durante mi primer trimestre. Creo que la mayor parte vino de que la universidad no se parecía a nada a lo que esperaba. Todos a mi alrededor parecían estar demasiado preparados, así que saber que todavía soy capaz de salir adelante y lograr fue un sentimiento increible.

• What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?/¿Qué consejo tienes para los estudiantes de primera generación actuales o futuros?

Its okay to feel like you want to give up!!! A lot of the time we convince ourselves that feeling like we want to quitt is not okay, but the truth is we have the right to feel overwhelmed about school, family, relationship or anything. With so much pressure on our backs, we are not always going to be able to hold ourselves together. Take a step back, breathe and collect yourself, do not forget that your mental health is important too. So if you think you are taking on too much, just slow down and try to get yourself back up. we have all been there and its okay, don't let anyone tell you different

¡¡¡Está bien querer rendirse!!! Muchas veces nos convencemos de que tiene ganas de abandonar todo no esta bien, pero la verdad es que tenemos derecho a sentirnos abrumados por la escuela, la familia, la relación o cualquier cosa. Con tanta presión sobre nuestras espaldas, no siempre seremos capaces de mantenernos juntos. Da un paso atrás, respira y recogete a ti mismo, no olvides que tu salud mental también es importante. Entonces, si crees que está asumiendo demasiado, simplemente tómas calma, e intenta recuperarte. Todos hemos estado ahí y está bien, no dejes que nadie te diga lo contrario.

• Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son los familiares, amigos o seres queridos que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de su trayectoria universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de agradecimiento que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

My mom and dad would be the most influential people throughout my college journey. You both have always inspired me to keep going through the good or bad. I have always looked up to you guys and I hope that all my hard work has made you both be proud of me as much as I am of you both. 250 characters is not enough space to tell you how thankful I am that you guys have never given up on me. I love you both!

Mi mamá y papá serían las personas más influyentes a lo largo de mi viaje de la universidad. Los dos siempre me han inspirado para seguir adelante a través de la buena o mala. Siempre los he admirado y espero que todo mi arduo trabajo los haya hecho sentir tan orgullosos de mí como yo de ustedes. 250 palabras no es suficiente espacio para decirles lo agradecido que estoy de que ustedes nunca se hayan rendido conmigo. ¡los amo a los dos!

• Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?/¿Quiénes son el personal, la facultad o los mentores que han sido más influyentes a lo largo de su trayectoria universitaria? ¿Hay algunas palabras de gratitud que le gustaría compartir con ellos?

I cannot really pinpoint one specific staff or faculty who have been most influential throughout my college journey. But I want to thank every one of my professors who actually cared about their students and were understanding that we have lives outside of school! You are the true heroes to my college career, and I hope that you get the recognition you all deserve from the school!!

Realmente no puedo identificar a un personal o facultad específico que haya sido más influyente a lo largo de mi viaje universitario. Pero quiero agradecer a cada uno de mis profesores que realmente se preocuparon por sus estudiantes y entendieron que tenemos vidas fuera de la escuela y todavía fueron capaces de enseñar de manera increíble. ¡¡Ustedes son los verdaderos héroes de mi carrera universitaria y espero que obtengan el reconocimiento que todos merecen de la escuela!!

• What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?/¿Qué planea o espera hacer después de graduarse?

After graduating, I plan on doing two gap years. I’m not really sure what to expect but as of right now the plan is to get an MA certification, volunteer at any medical place I can to gain more experience. From there I plan on applying to PA school, in the hopes to work at a practice as a PA.

Después de graduarme, planeo hacer dos años sabáticos. No estoy muy seguro de qué esperar, pero a partir de ahora el plan es obtener una certificación de asistente médico, ser voluntario en cualquier lugar médico que pueda para ganar más experiencia. A partir de ahí planeo aplicar a la escuela de PA, con la esperanza de trabajar en una práctica como un PA.
