What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
Being a first generation college graduate means making my parents proud. It means that I can lead by example for my siblings and showing that it is possible to graduate college and it's okay to aim high.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
My proudest moment at UC San Diego has to be passing the organic chemistry series with A's because that had to be one of the most exhausting series I have ever had to take.
What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?
Some advice that I would give to current or future first generation students would be to not be scared of failure. Failure happens, you might have a super hard class or have no time to study for a test. If you fail just take it as a lesson and grow from there, it's okay.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
To my mom, dad, sister, and friends I would like to thank you guys for always having my back even when times were super hard. You guys were always my number one supporters and reminded me of my worth and how I can do anything that I set my mind to.
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
To Michelli and Thomas, thank you for always guiding me in the right direction and giving be the best advice inside and outside academic life. You guys are amazing and I am beyond grateful for you guys, not just as my bosses but as my friends.
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
After graduation I am taking a gap year to take the MCAT and gain some more clinical experience. Hopefully within the next 2 years I will be attending medical school.
